Taipans @ Wildcats 25/01

Windler not yet back (still faking that eye injury I guess), so Cats unchanged from Wednesday.

Tough ask for Cairns on the road after playing Thursday night though.

And I can't believe Pinder just tried an AFL speccy and drew blood by elbowing Groves on the way down, no call

Half the time fouls result from actions applying the same amount of force as your grandma lowering her English breakfast teabag into her morning brew. (Exhibit A- the Waardenburg foul on Cotton's 3 a minute earlier). Then that goes uncalled

Dude behind me in the crowd is one of those referee reviewers who sits there with a notepad asessing the officiating. Overheard someone ask him about the he seemingly late calls. They are a directive aimed at stopping the refs being too trigger happy and waiting till the play is finished to make a call. So the takeaway from that is they are pausing to give more thought to their decisions and still making bonehead decisions a lot of the time both ways.

Other than that great exciting game and respect to Cairns who are certainly not quitters despite peaking comically late.

What a shocker, not sure I have seen a gane where both teams were entitled at times to feel absolutely hard done by. They called the absurd, they missed the obvious, every time you felt it was advantage one team they came back with a head scratcher... take a hang, draw blood no foul.... beat the man and elevate with a normal shooting motion, offensive foul, shove a player out of court on a d board, no call leads to tied game. Etc... oh yeah the bc and 1.... not sure he hit him

Well done Cairns, massive effort.

Anyone else having 2022 ScoMo flashbacks?

And spot on PW - several Wildcats players have a very low basketball IQ. Specifically Pinder and Henshall but the legend that is BC had some headscratching moments. Doolittle also had an absolute stinker in the second half.

The refs literally made themselves the center of attention. They over whistled and not well either. Killed Amy flow, stopped players making basketball plays or hustling for lose balls by trying to find fouls that weren't there. Then the most over the top Pinder hang they swallowed it. You are welcome to dislike my opinion, but tonight it is warranted, that was not an enjoyable spectacle, it was not good basketball and it was largely to do with the referees

Yeah of course cats looked well off. But that doesn't change the fact both teams found it impossible to adjust to what was and wasn't getting called, both teams were incredibly frustrated and both could feel hard done by. As a product, it was awful. Both ways. very experienced basketball minds would be confused as to what was and wasn't getting called, what the hell is and is not an offensive foul? Elevate for a normal shot, yep, push of with a forearm or do a delly and use your shoulder to push of no. Is there an out of bounds line? Can you get pushed out of bounds, take a hang, sure why not, hussel for a rebound or lose ball, we don't want that... honestly tell me that the game wouldn't have been better with a beginner ref to scared to call anything but the extremely obvious and just let them play. In fact no ref might have made for more enjoyable viewing.

Dunkman how dear you suggest BC not worthy of winning mvp this year. I did this last year and got corrected that in years where bryce isn't playing well and not leading stats then kissing criteria reverts to how players influence games, not scoring or stats, which is why BC should still get mvp!

(I should add I'm a huge fan of his but he should be judged and reffed in the same way as others)

Great press conference by Forde, actually makes me eat my words on the criticism I've had of them this season.
Again, mark my words Cotton is a absolute champion and had a great season but over the whole season so far, Kendrick Davis has been better in every stat bar under one point a game less, they are fifth and sixth on the table, the season is not over yet so it could change but at this stage Davis is the MVP.

Well what a 48hrs for the Taipans . Not sure where the desire has been all season but they showing some heart in the last 10 days . Good to see the team enjoying the victory . we rarely beat Perth in Perth . At this rate we may well finish 9th . I agree that some of the calls were head scratchers and the tech on Sam at that stage of double OT was certainly uncalled for . Would have been a great flight home I reckon .

It's games like the last two games is why hard to take Perth seriously as a contender. They play no defence. The start of the second half overtime is why not paying attention to details will kill you in the playoffs. They got mixed up on switches and the taipans just had a field day. Gleeson teams would never let that happen

It's not the best statistical player award, it's the most valuable. Without Cotton they're near the bottom, without Davis, well it's the Sixers so god knows. And a lot of the times he's put those numbers up in garbage time and hasn't even been the best Adelaide player. It's Cotton and it's not even close for second place.

Totally disagree, Davis is instrumental in everything Sixers do, stats in garbage time, lol. Punters were saying Perth would be better without Cotton when he was injured and they were winning. Basketball is a game built on stats, they have to come into it. Considering also Cotton plays nearly all game are his stats in garbage time. Daylight, again lol, it's close and any neutral observer would agree, not like the biased commentary who only see points.

No, the ref's didn't make BC shoot a horrid %, reverting back to our no movement no working to get people open from earlier in the season did that. Just because the ref's were awful and I stated it ruined the game for me, doesn't mean they caused a bad Bc shooting night... some of you need to learn to compartmentalise, seriously. More than one thing can be awful and they don't always have a direct or significant impact.

Davis doesn't deserve to be MVP. If it were the old 3-2-1 scoring system after each game Cotton would smoke him but given that system doesn't exist anymore KD is a good chance to win it on the hype of the Sixers likely making the Top 6.

Should be Cotton and then daylight, IMO.

The problem with cotton when he is taking that many shots and missing , he becomes a liability as the coach will never sit him out. While he did have 8 rebounds, for a double overtime game he only had 3 assists. Shooting 5 of 21 from the 3 point line is also inexcusable, he should of found others to take the shot.

If Cotton decides not to return or is asking too much, Cats wouldn't be crazy to talk to Kendrik as I think his style of game gets other players more involved. They would have some money tied up in Cotton to make it attractive.

hoopie, I don't remember Hooley saying anyone else but it was a bit suspicious he was calling Trez and KD as certainities for the All-NBL 1st Team just 7-8 games into the season.

I'm sure part of it too is Hooley is from Adelaide, but has been living in Melb since his career ended early, so maybe a bit of former hometown bias. No one are locks for any end of season awards/teams that early in the season.
