Illawarra @ Cairns 23/01

Hard to see Cairns repeating the result from a couple of weeks ago.

Hawks got plenty to play for to lock up top spot on the ladder, but will they go for the kill with Cairns looking to keep them under 111 for the Shootout.

Surely Illawarra will be more focused on the big picture and just focussed on the win. Unless they're plenty up in the last qtr I don't think they'll risk the result to go for the score. If the result is beyond doubt things might be different.

Interested to see how Cairns respond after Adam Forde's postgame comments. Hopefully they put up a fight.

I agree, hawks will be out to make sure they win, anything else is a bonus. Cairns are very Jekyll and Hyde, have ability but only show up occasionally. Might be closer than table position indicate, if hawks get foot on throat early taipans could crumble but if taipans get rolling it'll be game on. Can taipans play D in long stretches, I’m not convinced, hawks by 15 in a high scoring game.

If I'm Cairns I’m slowing the tempo down this game for both reasons.

I'm not certain taipans have ability to slow it down, or play the D to do it. Should make for an interesting contest.
