JJs @ Kings 19/01/25 2:30pm aedt

On paper should be an easy one for the Kings, with Tassie having Magnay, MacDonald and Deng out.

In saying that the Kings have dropped some other 'easy wins' this year, so maybe Tassie can put up a good fight. A JJs win would go a long way to cementing 6th for them.

Sadly no chance JJ..and percentage going to take huge wack too. End of day doesn't matter can't beat cats no point.

If JJ's lose this and Sixers beat Cairns, Adelaide would be just 0.5 games and percentage behind the JJ's.

Tassie will still have 4 games left and Adelaide 5 games left after today.

Agreed can't see JJs getting out of this, should never underestimate them but kings really need this. JJs got no one who’s going to stop Cooks, the guards contest should be a lot more even but just don’t see how JJs win this. Kings by 10 plus.

Great call by the ref, he flopped and issued the foul as he hit the legs of the scorer. JJs be happy with the score.

Kings are a rabble, they might go on and win this but need a miracle to win this season. The talking up of Noi as sixth man is also rubbish, he struggles on D most of the time, yes he's a scorer on his good days.

Oliver been kings best, lead by four. JJs just do it by committee, Doyle scoring a few though.

What an awful signing

Proud of the JJs

Outclassed at the end.

Interesting comments on this thread early re out of it in the first quarter.

JJs are tough - get back Deng and Magnay and sneak in to the finals watch out.

Some tough calls down the stretch ie Crawford on Noi (did not effect the play) and Doyle not getting any calls but that did not make the difference. Noi did.

Gaze is hard to listen to as a commentator.

Looking forward to the usual posters having a crack at Roth.

Personally very happy as a JJ supporter to have him as their coach.

Tough loss it was there for the winning.

Channel 10 just goes away from the game to an ad break no warning as soon as it hit 4pm. Had to flick it over to 10 Bold to see the end of the game.

Was just thinking which was dumber, Hummer or Adams backcourt violation timeout call earlier this season.
All this blue collar talk, he is just ordinary and be the 10th player on most rosters.

That Hummer guy is an absolute dud. Screws up badly in one posession takes his eyes off the ball and let's the inbound from JC hit him in the face and then jacks up that stupid monster 3 thinking the shot clock was expiring. Game, set and match.

I know the JJ's were hoping McVeigh was going to come back but they should've spent more of that money to do better than Sword/Hummer. I'm sure McVeigh would've understood and taken a bit of a discount on his usual pay just to see out the season.

JJs a little unlucky, just on the foul count. Hummer was very good except for one absolute brain fade. I still believe JJs will get sixth and deserve it. I'm not a fan of people or players talking themselves up, it’s to American for me, I prefer just humble players and people, but then again I’m from an older generation.

Kings a semi finalist at best not going anywhere near a title if you struggle to beat a team as undermanned as the jackjumpers

Noi's a gun have - no issues with him talking himself up.

Do have an issue with the 17 turnovers from the JJs (along with the 30 -13 foul discrepancy). Couple of the turnovers at crucial times.

Yes Noi. It's is also true that he told all and sundry that Cairns was a stop over on the way to nba.

Hummer is clearly better the sword, he’s certainly better than Terangi in today’s game. Is he a super star no. As had been said they should have gone hard on a good player when McVeigh left, Terangi was never going to be that piece.

Hummer with one mistake? As mentioned above the play where he threw the ball off him was because he dropped an easy pass. Earlier he missed a very makeable layup. Last game I saw him he missed 2 uncontested layups. JJs have certainly made a lot of very good decisions, this one is not just bad but what were they thinking. Blah blah about blue collar and fitting the JJs culture criteria. He's a tweener, not big enough for a 4 and not skilled or quick for a 3. Not a shooter, defence is ok, but again is stuck in between. If they'd picked up a big to fill in for Magnay (hindsight is marvelous of course) it would have filled a need. If they'd gone for a quick defensive player, he could guard the oppositions best guard. If they'd gotten a scorer that would lessen the load on Doyle and Crawford. Yet for giving shit to Te Rangi they had nearly the same output, is that what you want from an import replacement, a guy with the output of Te Rangi? He's lucky with the injuries because he should be getting DNP's CD. The guys averaging 4 points on a team desperate for scorers.

You get what you pay for, yes neither of the two are great but it's what they were offering that they got those two. Roth obviously had his ideas on both so yes neither have been great but everyone said their original roster was rubbish and they made a GF. I thought Hummer did ok, you can think differently which is fine.

Keep in mind Tassie needed a fair bit of luck to even make the playoffs in Year 1, I think Perth just needed to win their last game at home to get in and lost so Tassie snuck in. Then in the SF's against Melb Goulding rolled his ankle in warm ups 20 min before tip off of Game 3.

I loved that Tassie made the GF in their first season but they pretty lucky.

JJs basically playing without 3 starters and their 6 man. Yet, that was one they probably should have pinched but for the turnovers and brain fades. Really miss MacDonald's calm and control, Deng and McVeigh hitting big shots and Mags protecting the rim and playing tough. Still think their original roster was good enough to go back to back. Will be interesting what they do in free agency. Don’t expect they will change their core much but imagine Roth will be hoping to pick up another top level local even if McVeigh does return and a high level 3rd important. Would be great if they could bring Kenyon back too imo. Agree Scout, hats off to Roth and the playing group, they are all amazing.

A coach turning to the foul count in a presser is the equivalent of Keating's "last refuge of the scoundrel" in regards to a politician turning to patriotism. Old as time and unedifying.

Zodiac, in defence of Roth. He didn't turn to the foul count. I don’t think he was going to say anything about it but the journo brought it up and Roth amongst other things said he knows the JJs foul but he couldn’t say anything about the other team because then the red phone would ring.

Fair enough I haven't watched it I was just going by what the posters before were saying. A coach, any coach, turning to the foul count is old as time though. Goorjian back in his Magic/Titans days used to be a master of it.

Reply #958332 | Report this post

Goorj still does it today, he commented in his press conference how well his team played D without fouling. Roth was just answering a question, basically said that Doyle went to the rack consistently and never got one free throw, Noi got every call, more throws on his own than all JJs together. No side is either that good or bad.

I can't remember the last time I watched a press conference from coach, even my own team. They had their time to effect things during the game so I'm not interested after the fact when they start spinning, whinging about foul counts/missed calls, cherry picking stats from the box score etc. I can understand fans being interested though just not for me.

Why comment then zodiac?

First you have a crack ( a good one using the great Keating to do so) about press conferences then say you don't watch them. Either have an informed opinion or don't.
