SEM v NZ at SBC 5.30 AEDT

First of what should be two good games today.

Breakers in better form and SEM rolling. While I don't believe Tacko has been that good if he can get the two SEM bigs into foul trouble it could be game on. PJC back and Mennenga back to early season form. Should be closer than table position suggests but SEM should still get this by a few. Two extremely good coaches going against one another will also be interesting.

speaking of SEM, Owen Foxwell has just signed a 2 year extension with them. Would have been a key free agent target for several teams

Huge potential, great to see him re-sign, such great composure for a young guard.

Maybe SEM can donate their score to breakers as it's their 50k game. Home cooking happening a bit.

Game on just like that, SEM can't still have defensive weaknesses.

Tacko and Mccaron both plus 10, Tacko might not be as bad as I thought, three fouls though. SEM have been so good under King but still lack that defensive minded player, Kenyon doesn't seem to be Kings man and great as Hurt has been he’s getable on D.

This Breakers team is seriously one stinking pile of shit.

My goodness, PJC is the most overrated player i have seen.

No wonder why he has ended up in the NBL.

If he was good, he would not be in this league

Talking of over-rated....

Matt Kenyon, stinks it up even in junk time! Guys shooting 28% on the season and in career worst form, no wonder King doesn't trust him for any worthwhile minutes.

Josh King really deserves a lot credit, his coaching both in the gym and on the sideline is superb. To be able to get Sobey to be playing at this elite level at 34 years old after his last wasted seasons in Brisbane is ridiculous. Foxwell is going to be a beauty as well, Hunter, Hurt, Wieskamp, Lewis Glover and bench guys is true credit to coaching.

Koponen also should get lot credit, got handed a shit sandwich, just kept at it, after a first quarter where they were blown out the water he got it back on track. They have some good players, if he can bring a few of his selections next season they could cause trouble. If Fall is on budget money keep him and play him off bench for short minutes, he's not really near import quality. Like some other sides new owners might help after the mid season debacle.

As ordinary as NZ have been lately, I still find Lopez worth tuning in for.
Very happy for the Breakers that he gets a 2nd season there. Has slotted so nicely into this league.
And yeah, Koponen seems like a good get as well. Hope he gets a better roster to work with next season.

Thought the calling was very ordinary tonight. No consistency. Tacko had his arms tied up at times and no call. Contact near the rim was a lottery.

But breakers were their own worst emeny. Took silly options once they got themselves back into the game. And some poor decisions by kop as well leaving menninga on the bench during q4 and bringing anticevich into the game for his first minutes.

SEM deserved the win but hard to see them getting far in the finals if they can't put that breakers team away earlier

Kop complain about refs and how they call fouls, saying he's played all over the world saying it’s frustrating how it’s called. He’s comes across as top quality human being Kop.

Not taking anything away from the Phoenix defence and ball pressure (excellent), but Mooney and PJC get smashed. Are our refs unprofessional towards particular players?

I don't like bagging refs but I seem to a bit but they let lots hand checks, grabbing going but you play straight up D around the bucket the whistle goes. I’m not convinced PJC will be back due to it.

Yep, agree Dunkman, it's a trademark of Aussie refs, they allow a different kind of physicality to other parts of the world, allowing the scrappy stuff while being more strict on positional defence.
