Ranking the Aussies in the NBA so far this season

Bit bored, thought I'd do this and get some other people's thoughts on it as well.

#1 Daniels- Having a sensational season, in strong consideration for DPOY and MIP awards, all hail the great barrier theif!

#2 Giddey- If it wasn't for Daniels incredible breakout season where he's playing DPOY level basketball, Giddey would be first, the move to Chicago has turned out excellent for him.

#3 Simmons- having similar performances to his previous 2 seasons in Brooklyn, certainly very solid though

#4 Green- Doing his usual 3 and D tough style of play, but actually posting worse stats than last season. Some talk Charlotte could try and trade him

#5 Landale- Had a few decent games but been given minutes sparingly the last few months, could be traded to a team needing centre depth

#6 Furphy- Seems to have stuck in the Pacers rotation alright, showed some flashes of a potential star

#7 Mills- Seen the court sparingly but shown flashes of his old brilliance when he's been on there.

#8 Reath- has done fairly little with the small minutes he's been given in Portlands overstuffed centre rotation

#9 McVeigh- had back to back 20 point G-League games, splashed in a few threes in the NBA, and hit a preseason buzzer beater to force OT.

#10 Travers- Been solid in his few NBA minutes, and averaging 21, 10 and 6 in the G-League.

#11 Ingles- hasn't played since Novemeber, obviously just a locker room presence at this stage in his career

#12 Ducas- had 4 NBA games where he played junk time, hasn't appeared at all in the G-League since November

#13 Exum- obviously can't properly rank a guy who hasn't played a single game, hope he gets back on the court soon

#14 Thybulle- same as Exum, yet to play a game due to injury

Hard to argue with much of that.

I don't really like having Simmons that high, but can't make much of a case for anyone below him to be promoted.

Had that same thought process Damo, considered putting Green above him but objectively Simmons has had a better season. In any case he can't go lower than 4th, serious drop-off in quality after those top 4

Yeah agree with everything above. You WANT Green to take that 3rd spot. He's had some good stretches but seems to go through periods of never seeing the ball. Feels like he plays better with no Lamelo, but I havent looked into the numbers.

Ideal world Green takes that 3rd spot and Exum and Matisse come back from injury strong and drop Simmons to 6th.

Furphy has looked solid at times. Pacers are super deep at his position and they've finally started playing good basketball. I dont see him getting playoff minutes yet, but if he continues to work and stay ready he'll get some shots over the rest of the season.

Cheers Dunkman, didn't have anything to do this afternoon and I've wanted to do this for a while

And Cram, I agree, hard for Green to make a serious impact playing next to such high usage players in Ball, Brandon Miller, and Miles Bridges.

I've wondered what Green's effectiveness could be coming off the bench to lead the second unit

I really thought Green might have a similar breakout to Daniels when he moved to Charlotte. Turns out the opposite.

Solid list. Here's their fantasy basketball 'rostered’ % aka how many fantasy owners have them on their team just for fun:

Dyson 84.2%
Giddey 85.9%
Simmons 11.8%
Green 0.6%
Thybulle 0.3%
Furphy 0.1%
Mills 0.1%

The remaining are 0%

Could it be argued an all NBL team could fully compete with the NBA guys. Daniels has stepped up to be a premier defender and offence is solid, Giddy has had some big games but his shot and defence is still a question.
So the NBL team would look like (obviously healthy), Magnay vs Landale, White vs Reath, Goulding vs Daniels, Delly (purely based on experience and leadership) vs Mills, Armstrong vs Giddy.
NBA bench - Green, Furphy, Exum (would start over Patty if healthy), McVeigh, Thybulle, so will leave it at 10 as I'll never pick Simmons to represent Australia and Ingles really is done. Travers and Ducas if going for 12.
NBL bench, Cooks, DJ, Toohey, two out of Harrison/Hunter/Rocco. Might give Leaupepe a go just for some muscle and hustle, not sure what other guard, if Harvey gets naturalised definitely (Cotton probably rules himself out of contention because of his shambles, but would start over Delly otherwise).
I actually believe the NBL team wouldn't be too far off, especially if Harvey or Cotton could play because of their scoring and shooting ability. The bigs matchup very well, might actually be bigger overall. And if Goulding was shooting the way before his injury would be a massive wildcard.

Interesting hypothetical phantom, hard to argue with you that it would be close

Do you really think Cotton would get his 20 shots a game against Dyson, Green, Exum?

Probably not 20 depending on system, but there's not such a disparity anymore. A great offensive player is going to shoot. Those players slow scorers down but they don't ever totally shut down players. You think in Boomer practices they were totally shutting down everyone. In Boomers games do they totally shut down the opposition scorers, some that aren't even in NBA? And the heater Cotton is on has his confidence up he's scoring on most.
