JJs v SEM 4.30 aedt.

Could be a beauty, JJs probably with home court. Sobey and Walton jnr got stick to team first. Hunter and Hurt again got stay out foul trouble. Deng will be a problem for SEM as will Crawford. JJs heading towards top two and then look out.

As a JJs supporter nervous about this one.

New coach for SEM has them playing more team ball ie Sobey taking it to the rack instead of pinging it up from outside and moving the ball.

About to head out to the game.

Surely that's unsportsmanlike foul trip by Krislovic on Walton jnr.

Good quarter by both sides, SEM by 10, JJs right in this though.

Replacing Sword for Hummer never made sense from the start.

Game stopped at present, leak in AC system, SEM by one at present. Sorry it's a roof leak, not AC.

Halftime, SEM by a few, bloke up in the roof holding a bucket, lol. Very good game, both coaches very smart , tactical. It's like chess at speed.

Can tell who the refs want to win, shockingly bad reffing

Like all home courts in most leagues around the world, you get home cooking, JJs crowds clearly very vocal. SEM looking tired, nice lead can they hang on or collapse like at kings.

Hands down the worst reffed game of the season. And that's saying something.

Dunkman, I certainly was not implying Tassie were the one getting favourable calls. In my eyes it's been exceptionally bias in favour of SEM

I've just checked the stats, lol, JJs foul a lot but I didn’t realise that it was so one sided. Magnay massive out against good teams, fat lady not singing yet.

We've seen him very sparingly but I like the look of Nick Stoddart

King probably get the better of Roth tonight. Excellent game, SEM slowed the pace a little, were smarter than against the kings. JJs first quarter hurt them, re the fouls Krislovic and Terangi can nearly be called for fouls on every bit off D they play. This could hurt JJs top two spot but they are still right in it.

SEM smacked the JJs in the mouth, well coached team.

They move the ball well - deserved the win.

Will not comment on the reffing did not influence the result but daaaamn.

No doubt there were fouls to call but the discrepancy in that game was substantial (a lot uncalled one end and soft called the other).

Along with one of the worst 3 second calls I have seen (standing at the top of the key actually out of it - gonna call that you need to call a lot more ie Hurt and Hunter camped in there)

Didn't watch this but surfing the box score, the foul and free throws discrepancy stands out like dogs balls

When has a team ever taken 6 free throws in a game? That's madness

Can not say that the JJs had home cooking in that game.

Perhaps like in the AFL the refs have pregame instructions to focus on a particular aspect of the game and then just over reach in response. That it was only at one end of the floor suggests the focus was on the JJs D pushing the boundaries and so that was under the microscope and the other end of the floor wasn't. Have seen this before though and the JJs win regardless. But the extreme one way of the calls in this game proved a bridge too far even for the JJs.

Do not believe the refs were the difference in the result.

But the discrepancy in the calls at either end was substantial.

Sorry, but Doyle just didn't get it done. Hummer is no star. JJ have no paint defence at the rim.
SEM where coached better and made better adjustments. The actions the JJ ran in the 2nd to get Crawford shots, then never ran it again. And let's not talk about all their TO's.

Tassie been hot lately but the Hummer signing is really strange. Obviously early but just looks ordinary and doesn't seem to fit any real need, especially with Magnay out they look really small and will struggle against good bigs.

"JJ have no paint defence at the rim."

Obviously they do, arguably the best rim defender in the league, but he's not in uniform at the moment.

Hummer is no star, but defensively he is super sound and offensively he sets great picks. A really good fit for the JJs.

I thought SEM were the better team on the night and deserved the win. On pure math if you take 10 made free throws off one team and add 10 made free throws to the other team then that is a 20 point turnaround in the final score. The JJs went to the foul line 3 times for 6 free throw attempts for the whole game. There were obvious non calls on made field goals, non calls on travels and the many innocuous foul calls that got SEM to the bonus. With so many old ballers in the crowd at JJs games it doesn't go unnoticed.

I'll admit I didn’t realise the foul discrepancy till I looked at stats in the third, as Scout said still thought best side won but it certainly throws a slant on it. SEM got hammered at kings on fouls three nights ago, refs have been going back to their old ways after a reasonably good start to season. On any day it’s different. Let them play a bit, certainly bigs under the bucket.

KL reckon I am in your classification of:

"an old baller in the crowd"! There are a few of us there.

Yesterday

For a number of years now, the officials have started the season allowing lots of grabbing, pushing and letting defenders into the cylinder and we get ugly basketball as a result.

Around the FIBA break a crackdown on contact that restricts freedom of happens and offensive players are able to play some basketball.

If teams adapt well technically, which they have this year, the NBL becomes awesome to watch with the fast, free-flowing nature. Past 5-6 weeks have been some of the consistently most entertaining basketball I can remember.

Hopefully teams don't try to go back to all the grabbing because that's when the foul-a-thon games happen. Our refs are far from perfect, but the product is far better when they enforce the rules and teams adapt.
