Lamonte Turner to Sydney

So much for the Arcidianco rumours.

A 6'2 PG, 4 years of college ball for Tennessee, been in Europe since. Decent playmaker, averaged 7apg in his last college season, 6 a game in Finland a few years back. We'll see

Based purely off his stats seems to be a defensive minded point guard that racks up steals.

A strange signing to be honest not really a pass first set up play type pg and not really a scorer either

If true, I don't get it, he’s not better than Bruce. Where has he been playing 24/25 seasons. Better get Smith back to run the joint, some of these decisions seem ridiculous.

Pondgrass is still the CEO. This is the Goorjian heat, he puts so much pressure on his team's admins they panic and just grab someone 'D-Day as Goorj called it'.

The fact this guy has only played in mid-low leagues and hasn't played in 1.5 seasons suggets how desperate the Kings were.

Can only laugh at people writing him off before he's played an NBL game.

I wrote off Craig Sword before he played an NBL game, past record/resume is usually a good indicator.

Happy to admit I got it a bit wrong on Tacko Fall after he struggled in China last season, he's not exactly dominating but definitely playing better personally than I thought he would.

Re: Turner the Kings probably would've been better off staring down Goorj and just keep going with Bruce with back up from Le'afa, just tell Le'afa he's not allowed to shoot no matter how wide open.

Interesting that Olgun Uluc knew what Josh Magette was doing on overtime when Felix thought bubbled his name as an option for the Kings (is still retired as a pro baller and working in a professional advisory firm much to the Overtime crews amusement given he was known as the accountant in his playing days). Suggests that maybe a team or teams (perhaps the Kings) were making enquiries through Olgun's player agent contacts. Magette would have fitted what Goorj was saying he was after perfectly. That would have been quite a story if both the JJs 2022 import back court had returned to the NBL in the same week.

No one is writing him off, it just doesn't look right. If you’re Bruce, or any of the other guards there you would be rightly pissed off. As I said, Pongrass might be running the joint but this wouldn’t happen under smith.

He's basically coming from College with a year of FIBA in Finland and then a handful of games in Serbia. Better than coming straight from college into FIBA and not many would go straight from College to a tier 1 Euro competition. Stats in Finland were decent but a huge step up to the NBL.

Finland is really good at producing a few good coaches but the league standard is bottom euro level. Nbl1 east, central level.

Robertson and Le'afa haven't played well enough. Goorjian wants Adams at SG so he's brought in another PG to share the load with Bruce. It's a fairly straight forward roster adjustment to cover the loss of Galloway and give the team more scoring punch.

I guess results will tell if you're right anonymightymous. My gut feel is he's just not using bruce and leafa effectively. After all I think both have been in nbl finals or championship teams in which case it points more toward the coach being the problem than the players

Robertson not playing well, but at least he's got his shifts at Dan Murphy's to fall back on.

How he got a 3 year deal out of the Kings I'll never know.

I'm not saying it's necessarily a great move, results will tell as you say, but I can see what the reasoning behind the move is. If Turner can be a solid player then Adams can play purely SG. Best case scenario for Sydney is Lamonte can click with Oliver and get a bit more out of him, because Space Cam is pretty dependent offensively on his PGs.

I know other teams were interested and the NBL were doing their part hyping him up like he had star potential given his play in college, at a nothing school mind you, but 3 years damn, good agent. Very limited player.

JJs could only have been offering him a DP (maybe the one they ended up giving to Brody Nunn). Sean MacDonald was elevated to the main roster and the only other one they had available they used to recruit Gak. Everyone else with expiring contracts (the likes of Drmic and Deng etc.) were resigned before free agency and they were never being let go. Must have been another team offering a full roster spot and competing with the Kings.

As I said in the other thread, I don't get it, but whatever. The shorter guard rotation was actually a good thing IMO, even with Izzy's shot falling off a cliff.

I still like Robertson as a longer term prospect. He seems to have one absolutely horrendous turnover per game, but otherwise he's show enough glimpses that there is something there.

My point is anonymightymouse that they've got solid point guards now and being used poorly so recruiting another solid point guard isn't going to help one iota. Especially a defensive minded one.

If you ask me BG is creating noise so at seasons end he can claim he played half the season with a missing cog. Even though he created the roster with a large budget! Good on him. His management have clearly bought his story. But he'll be shown up again next season i bet

My point is Adams is being moved from PG to SG so they've brought in another import PG to fill that gap.

"I wrote off Craig Sword before he played an NBL game, past record/resume is usually a good indicator."

Sword was brought in to play a similar role to McDaniel and Kenyon in the JJs first two seasons. He was able to do that, but McVeigh leaving changed what was needed.

JJs still miss Kenyon IMO. He was a starter and on an upwards trajectory (like others) when he left. Expect he would be at another level if he had stayed in the JJs system. McDaniel just didn't get the opportunities with injuries and rotations. Has been great for the Bullets.
