Great Australian Shootout

Does anyone know or know where to find any information (history) on the Great Australian Shootout?

Is it still being played?

Has not been played for around 20 years! Was such a good event for U20 men and women, with teams from USA and China attending.

Originally hosted by Diamond Valley, it then moved to MSAC before it died.

As mentioned Brian Harvey is the guy to find in victoria, runs a sports flooring business the last time I saw him.

Was an amazing tournament ( i played in it for 2 years) and watched it as a kid at DV back in the day with the American Teams, my family hosted players that I'm still friends with to this day.

The Great Australian Shootout was an amazing tournament, and growing up at DV, I loved going to it every single year, and yes Brian Harvey was the main man for the tournament

From memory, I remember as a young kid, DV used to host a US team that was made up of like missionary high school athletes initially (I remember my family used to host them) and then Iowa Select started to come out on Tours, that was a Brian Harvey contact. Initially they just played against local rep teams, THE BEST team contained Fred Hoiberg and Loren Meyer (both future D1 college players and nba), that was an amazing team!!

Eventually, those tours turned into the tournament. Court 2 got a large temporary grand stand, other international teams came, other USA, China etc and interstate teams, plus the best of the best from Victoria, eventually became like an U20 Classic or Club Champs, usually the first game was always DV v Iowa Select. Many future NBL and olympians played in it, one of the best winners was a Norwood team that had an unbelievable Pero Vasiljevic!!

For reasons I don't know, in my teenage years, the tournament moved to MSAC and then to Nunawading where I played in it for DV as a top age u20 player where we lost to Kilsyth, with a dominant Luke Kendall in the team, I remember beating a US team and a Daryl Corletto led Melbourne Tigers.

It was an amazing tournament to play in, but I will always remember the DV-led Great Australian Shootouts, growing up I always wanted to play in that first game against Iowa Select in front of a packed court 1 and court 2 grandstand.

Growing up at DV, those Great Australian Shootouts weeks were always amazing, amongst many other fantastic DV memories I have!!
