Sixers path to Finals

Following probably most impressive win this season the Sixers gained momentum but actually dropped a position. Is their a path to finals. Can they return AEC to the fortress and captolutt to finals. Crucial games be against all-powerful Wilcats and Sem.

IMO - it's all about the mindset - all of the players have game. Kings and 36ers showed how the right mindset for 100% of the game gets it done. People sometimes need to bottom out to rise in adversity.
Melbourne game will be huge next weekend - 36ers must go in with the right mindset again - there will be a lot of sideshows to mentally distract them - stay focussed and it will be a blockbuster.

Good win against Sydney but other results couldn't have been any worse for the Sixers. Gonna have to go on a big win streak, only way.

One game don't make a season. They had a great hot shooting night against the Hawks earlier on as well.

The team have to find ways to win when they are shooting at a regular clip. Trez will be lucky to ever shoot 3/3 from downtown again in his career. I for one aren't buying in to anything other than a lucky night against a team who played poorly until I see some more fight particularly if they are down early.

Defense is still a major concern. Dech should help there when he returns.

The potential is there so looking forward to seeing where they can go from here.

FSOSP, you're right. That's why I didn't like the over the top celebrations.

Dech looking like he might return on Saturday and not a moment too soon against that United team.

Thinking play-in's and playoffs is a long way off with this group at the moment we're currently second to bottom on the ladder. Gotta be thinking one game at a time from now on.

I wonder how much of this recent circus has just been about Wells trying to get this group to commit to defence and effort? Not beyond the ego of some to kid yourself that you need a few offensive big names and everything will be fine. Like, where was the effort, defensive intensity, organised rebounding, closing out earlier in the season? Even before the suspensions, the defence was poor and they got by on home wins. Even though Wells is responsible for getting the team up, I would not rule out some difficutly in getting entitled players to put in effort. They had two days to turn things around agaisnt the Kings which suggests there was no reason they couldn't have shown this before. I think the offense looked simplified too, better paced, movement etc. Let's just see how they go against Melbourne and how much they learn. Got to win remaining home games at a minimum. Sadly, I think they'll miss out.

Agree Dech is going to be critical in the push to finals. Maybe team need the adverse situation to gel them. Not unrealistic to win all home games and get couple on road. Home form has generally been good albeit couple hiccups when underpersonell issues.
Sixers do have history of strong finishers. Nearly did Bradbury last season.. strap in crazy ride ahead.

Vasiljevic said on Overtime, which was filmed during the pre-game in Sydney, that the players and coaching staff had a big talk the night before that game that went for hours and that it was all about identifying their roles and committing to defence, he said there was nothing personal said it was all about what's best for the team going forward.

In saying that I think we're too far back at 8-11 to make the Top 6. You would think at a minimum a 14-15 record perhaps even 15-14 would be needed so to get to 14 wins we would need to win 6 of our last 10 and may even need to win 7/10.

Those 10 games include two games in Perth, one more in Sydney, one in Tasmania and home games against Melbourne and Illawarra too. That's the sad part with such a tough last 1/3 of the schedule we didn't capatlise enough on the easier first 2/3 of the schedule.

We just took it too damn easy in the first 1/3 of the season won our home games but content to drop our away games and then the suspension happened to Harrell & KD then the injury to DJ and had no continuity then gave up and had that string of 20 point losses, resulting in us losing 7 out of 8 games until Monday night's win in Sydney. We don't deserve to make it frankly, not that I think we will, it's like the 22-23 season all over again.

All home games are crucial and couple away games and rely on teams above them ,likely 5 to 6 th ,teams beating each other home and away going to be a tight finish ,our percentage isn't too flash so gonna need big wins .Next three games loom to decide if Sixers make finals or not .

Its a tough road home. This weekend will show us if anything has changed. The Sixers matchup well against Sydney, so I always thought we might get that one. But I didn't see much change, other than the way they came out with a positive, attacking mindset.

When the whole team has been on deck, I actually don't think it has been so much about attitude as about their inability to play good team defence or to execute anything much more complex than pick n roll or iso-ball for Montrezl. It was really obvious against Perth last week that the Wildcats execute what their coach wants on a much higher level than the Sixers.

Against Melbourne, they need to show that they have learned that they can't just run pick n roll or iso-ball and expect it to be effective against them. It needs ball and player movement, good screens to free up DJ and they need to play at a much higher pace to attack Melbourne's defence before it can setup.

Melbourne are very beatable.they had many lapses this season. Motivation for sixers gounna be huge. So if Motivation equals positive mindset sixers ate in the mood. Tree and davis going to be explosive..

The problem is LK has now created so many loopholes in the salary cap so Melbourne, sorry the well off teams can exploit it only for dropkicks like Bogut and Paul Smith to turn around and say "See the Kings were under the cap this season but other teams weren't".

The Kings signed Xavier Cooks to the biggest contract in NBL history 3yr/$3.6M, an obscene $1.2M per season yet if they elect to 'marquee' his contract, as they have, only $150k of that counts against the cap. It's arms race BS that less well off teams like Cairns and Illawarra can't compete with. The Taipans could only dream of having $1.2M to spend on just one player.

And touching on what MC sais it's also BS that my team a reasonably well off 36ers can essentially be 'allocated' a star player like Harrell just because our owner doesn't want to put his hand in his own pocket to pay for it. If the NBL are going to step in and do shit like that those types of players should be going to the likes of Cairns first. But Adelaide is a much bigger market for the NBL than Cairns so the NBL ignore them.
