Don't think anyone is game to post tonight. Certainly a much improved effort.

I was going to wait till game over to not jinx them. Anyway let's hope they can bring it home, Sixers deserve a bit luck.

What a contrast, I'm reading the previous game thread while they lead by 20+ in this one.

This organisation has an amazing ability to troll its own fans while entertaining us neutrals.

Are the Kings a serious championship contender? Not on the same level as Illawarra for me, and I'd even put Tassie above them

I was keeping it firmly zipped too. I trust the Sixers to hold a road lead even less than I trust the Cats.
Amazing turnaround from Saturday.

Harrel was fantastic, plus 25, 25&10. Davis is a star, magnificent, plus 13, 30&9a, Humphries also very good as was all who hit the floor for Sixers. What do you say about the kings, just disjointed Cooks, 16&15 but minus 19, clearly there worst minus, Adams 41 and minus 1 was probably there best. They don't need another guard they need a defensive big.

Sixers started with intent and it worked. Their confidence kept them relaxed and they made their shots. Awesome first quarter.

Kings had the shooting yips, possibly because they were expecting an easy win.

Credit to Sixers for staying switched on to the end, and playing a team game. Credit also to Josh Adams for keeping the scoreboard ticking over for Sydney.

Now let's see if Sixers can do it again.

I'm stunned.
After three of the most embarrassing losses, they produce that. What a strange club.

As for Sydney, their turn for a poor performance.
Cam Oliver looks like he’s in the doghouse.

Do they keep Oliver or let him go, they have injury spots available.

If Laupepe is injured and Oliver doesn't get his minutes then we’ll know there’s a big problem there.

Great win, but still feels like watching a group constantly on the edge of implosion. Suspect more "crisis" meetings will be required before the season is over.

At least the commentariat can return to bagging the Kings, which is always much more fun.

Isn't there a rule if an import has played in the comp before their contract is guaranteed? If that’s true, not sure the Kings would release Oliver. They will definitely bring someone else in, but at what position. I think either a a guard or a 5 that can stretch the floor. Where is that Brazilian big guy they had?

Tim Soares ^^ is who I meant, or someone like him.
They need some length and toughness. Cam fades in and out too much.

Soares is also playing in Japan, isn't he? It seems like if you’re a good import, but not Euroleague or NBA, you’ll be in Japan.

If the Kings sign another import and don't release Oliver it means they would have to move all of Bul Kuol's or Xavier Cooks' contract onto the salary cap. Probably makes more sense to cut Oliver and pay him out for the rest of the season.

On the Sixers not sure what to make of that going from a 24 point home loss to a 15 point road win, okay then. Great to arrest the streak of 20 point losses but lets see how they go against Melb on Saturday given the two times we played them this season we lost by 27 and 20.

Yes he is Japan, side struggling, same team as Soto, imo he's not helping their cause. What has Oliver done so badly that they won’t play him, he’s shorter than Soares but tougher imo. The b league isn’t as good as nbl but money is a lot better for imports, I normally watch a few games a week and it’s improving at a very fast pace.

Oliver's a knucklehead always has been. He had that good first season for Cairns and then came back the next season and acted like he didn't want to be there noping in some games dragging his heels settling for more outside shots.

He wasn't exactly playing that well in China last season either so I was surprised the Kings signed him with a small team just seemed too much of a risk if the lazy disinterested Cam showed up right from the get go Goorj was starting Leaupepe over him. Should've cut him ages ago.

Much better by the sixers,

I think wells just needs to continue tonights formula

Play the big 4 around 30 minutes each, dont over rotate and just largely put it on them to deliver and get out of the way.

They will either try hard and somewhat recover this season or they will go back to not playing well and a bad attutude, which for the imports will hurt them in next years contracts.

So given its in the players best interest for themselves and the team, i think if wells gets out of the way their is no reason they cant have a good attitude and repeat tonights effort.

The crisis meeting they had between the players and coaching staff must've helped.

"According to Code Sports, the 36ers held a "crisis meeting" between players and coaching staff ahead of Monday night's game, after a run of seven losses from the last eight games."

One thing noticeable immediately was effort and intensity at defensive end. What a difference it makes to 3 point shooting when you close out and force an extra pass or deter the shot. Could also see more organisation and commitment to secure defensive rebounds. This is what the best teams do each week.

I didn't really like the carry on after the game. You've won a game after not being able to get within 20 of anyone, but I guess you can also understand the relief. But,I do think Adelaide should just shut up and keep quiet from now on.

Worth remembering that Adelaide are not going to shoot the lights out like that all the time.

I still want to see Martin have a clear role.

Reply #956563 | Report this post

Much needed win last night and any Kings loss makes me happy.....but Adelaide shit the ball extremely well and Trez knocked down 3-3 from outside the arc. Overall the Kings were 31% and Adelaide 56% from 3.

Need a much bigger sample size to see if there is a different mindset as they were ahead all game and the eye test all year has shown the difference in body language and effort from their big wins to big losses.

Still think their lack of defense makes them too reliant on these great shooting nights to get wins.

Kings. What is going on with Oliver and Goorj? One of the more bizarre things I have seen and I've followed every NBL season closely.

Wells spoke very well in the press conference, made a point about having four off his best players out, makes it hard to win. A very good point, how many sides win with there four best players out for periods, Harrell, Dech, DJV and Davis.

Not sure I would consider Dech a better player than Humphries and Wells only had his top 3 players out for one game during that 7 losses in 8 games stretch. Yes, Harrell missed 3 games and Davis 2 games but they're two players not four.

I agree 36ers need to shut up and let their work do the talking instead.

For a team designed to play 8 players, the fact they've had Trez, Davis, DJV, Dech all out for 2 plus games recently, it is reasonable for Wells to point to that.

We have Rasmussen in the starting 5, we have Griscti, Ragoni filling in with spot minutes. There are times lately that the team has to be more NBL1 than NBL.

Granted teams go through this stuff, injuries aren’t a new concept but we knew going in that they wouldn’t have depth to handle that level of absenteeism.

Wells said he expects a lot of his top 4 players and whether he means Harrell, DJV, Davis and Isaac or Harrell, DJV, Davis and Martin or Harrell, DJV, Davis and Dench does not matter. The message was clear that he expects the highly paid players to be consistently accountable and match their pay packet with high performance.

What's the go with Wells and Davis? They seem to have a love/hate relationship. Wells does seem to pick on him? And this is despite Davis easily being our best player, and always works hard. I hope it doesn’t cost the club Davis longer term.

Wells picking on Davies ... ? Maybe just a case that Wells believes in Davies and is trying to accelerate his development ... Would be much more concerned if Wells did not spend a lot of time pushing him to do even better.... Nobody grow fast, if they just stay in their comfort zone.

Davis is young and Wells probably sees the potential of what he could be and perhaps sees him as a bit of passion project hence the love/hate aspect. Vasiljevic, Harrell and Martin are all set in their ways and have limited potential to improve.

I see the Wells/Davis relationship a bit like an old fashioned college coach/student athete thing. I suspect a few years down the track Davis will probably look back on his time under Wells with reverence.

Davis has said before Wells gets on him and Davis then goes into games with a "I'll show you attitude" as a response, so it sounds like it may partly be a motivating factor on Wells part. Get Davis pissed off and have him play with aggression, because at least off court he doesn't come across as the most outgoing guy. There will be times that kind of pushing will grate on you and tensions can boil over though.

I also guess it's a case of Wells wants Davis to focus on his D because he at times coasts there and Davis being at least solid on D helps a lot. His offense will always be his strong suit, but he has a deficiency that can partly be cured through effort alone which Davis doesn't always provide (and I imagine partly because he works so hard with the ball he's saving energy a bit). From Wells POV it may be a case of "how many times do I need to say it?". Wasn't part of Wells big dummy spit in the pre-season because Davis wasn't hustling back on D?

Davis did mention early in the year that he'd been going to Wells house and going through tape with him, so it sounds like there's at least somewhat of a professional relationship there between the 2, but I can imagine it can be a bit deflating at times if you have a great offensive game, but then in review they focus on negatives on you. Needs to be a balance there.

And like Zodiac says, it may be a case of he hates it now, but in a few years it'll all click mentally for Davis. Taylor Walker was the same with Neil Craig for the Adelaide Crows. Was booting bags on goals in the SANFL, Craig wouldn't pick him and kept telling him "you can kick goals, there's no doubting that, but if you really want to be a great player you need to put effort in when you don't have the ball" and Walker didn't understand it at the time, but you hear him talk about it now and he's a total 180 on it.

Amazing. One good game against a up and down Kings team and it seems things are forgotten. Did their sit down team meeting really solve everything? Roles suddenly got defined, all hugs and kisses between coach and players?
There's still rot in this team and all it will take is a little adversity to bring it to the fore again.
If anything it just showed how overrated Brian is again. Excuses that they need another ball handler to take pressure off Adams, wtf? Brian just showing again he needs to buy talent to win.

I agree a bit if there is one thing Goorj is known for it's not being able to adjust on the fly and the Sixers got out to a big lead early game over. Given it was Goorjian it's probably papered over a few of the cracks like I said lets see how they go against the best in the business in Vickerman on Saturday.

The typical Goorj pressuring of his team's ownership for extra help in pressers is both his usual shtick and unedifying. It's Goorj 101. His rosters no matter how loaded and salary cap obliterating are never enough for him. I'll laugh if it's true they end up with Shannon Scott.

Amazing first quarter by Adelaide, real fire from their meeting and it got them the W. Can they produce the defensive effort from that quarter game after game like good teams do? We'll see.

Sydney's backcourt is so shallow without Kuol and Galloway. Not surprised they are bringing in someone new, but their issues are not just personnel.

Maybe, Zodiac, La Park:

All good points, and same thoughts entered my mind. But, can also see that Davis appears frustrated by it at times if others are not held to same account. Davis is 25/26 so he's not a kid with a bad attitude or anything. His assist numbers are incredible and I hope an over the top approach by Wells does not upset it to the point he doesn't want to stay, that's all. If Wells is having physcial altercations with players, he must be a bigger hard ass then you'd think.

KD is only 25 and in his second year as a pro it does seem like he's a bit of a hothead and that fuels him and keeps his level up. What's to say he didn't attack Wells and Wells was just defending himself? Anyway that doesn't seem to be much of an issue now given it happened back during the FIBA break.

Zodiac, you're right. Speculation is fun, but I don’t know, so I shouldn’t speculate. And it doesn’t mean that problems aren’t fixable, and has already happened.
