New NBA All Star format

Thoughts on the new format? Will it result in a more "competitive" outcome for fans?

If you're going to start a thread about something at least elaborate on it.

Apologies PW, but with the amount of chatter on last year's game and the fact the info was not behind a paywall, I didn't feel the need to copy/paste. Indeed, I was surprised there was not a thread already given the amount of criticism (well deserved mind you) the game copped here last year.

At least the NBA have made some effort at shaking things up. In theory the semi with the young bucks should provide more of an honest contest but who knows. I would suggest a couple of things to try in order to lift the effort on D as that is where the game becomes a farce. Watching both teams walk up the floor and bomb 3's with no effort to defend or even grab an O board is not interesting.

Firstly, instead of the prize money going to the players (it's a pittance compared to their salaries anyway), have it go to each player's nominated charity. Mayve if they know their money is going somewhere where people are depending on them making an effort, they might just make the effort.

Secondly, instead of just having money based on winning (or perhaps instead of altogether), have it based on D. Bonuses for blocks, steals, drawing charges, any hustle play that leads to a TO and O boards. Half the money to the player (their charity) and the other half to team pool.

At the end of the day there is nothing that is going to get them to play at even a regular season level of intensity let alone a playoff level, but a repeat of last year's effort won't be met favourably by fans I would expect.

Okay, so they've copied the NHL four team concept. Meh.

NBA need to stop avoiding what will make the game interesting again - it's time for USA vs. World.

Agree, PW. Too much chance the 'locals' would lose.

Agree PW, USA vs World is probably the only way to rectify competitiveness and interest.
There's just a different trype of pride and motivation when representing your country (or playing against one).
