Woodville St Clair Christmas Carnival

What an absolutely phenomenal carnival. I thought it was organised well, and the communication was spot on.

A number of highlights for our family after our first carnival. I cannot believe the high energy that was on display, the (mostly) positive attitudes from all participants and the exceptional skill on display by the players.

After 8 years of basketball, we finally made our way to St Clair and were not disappointed.

Bring on 2025!

Good decision to remove the seniors. Made the experience for families a lot better.

Grading was questionable in a number of divisions, hard for a carnival like this.

Basketball Connect is the worst program out there!

I did notice that in the U16 Girls C grade comp there was an Ivor burge women's team playing. On further research it was found that some of the players were over 21 years old! Surely they should play U18’s at a minimum, not playing against 13 year old’s. An 8 year age gap is huge and seeing how physical they were, surely the comp organisers have a duty of care to these players.

I disagree about removing seniors, me and my mates had played for almost 10 years straight and it has been a travesty the last two years without the annual event. Something a lot of washed up older ballers looked forward too for reconnecting with teammates and doing something active.

Glad to hear it ran well for those who could participate.

Duke get your point, but it can't be both a Senior and Junior event. Or if it is, i think they should run them at different venues. I heard the seniors were dropped due to a lack of willing referees.

@Nightwing, not sure about unwilling referees but perhaps about timing and availability of stadiums?

Although, Sunday seemed a bit interesting, with some teams playing their fourth game and then staying for their finals. Playing two games when it's 40 degrees certainly not ideal, and St Clair ran out of Gatorade by 9 am.
The energy from the crowds was (mostly) positive. My son is looking forward to U18 next year, which is what they will hopefully continue to have.

One spectator did come into physical contact with a referee after a game which was disappointing, with people running over to help protect the ref when the spectator went for a second go to push him. Poor kid.
