Dash Daniels to join Melbourne as a Next Star

He's chosen the Aussie pathway. He’ll start training with Melbourne United next month, and join the roster for NBL26.

Great recruitment. Has excellent size at the point and will fit well into Vickerman's game style with his high energy defence. I wonder if Flynn Cameron departs? Not sure his contract status but you would think he would be seeking greater opportunities, pity as he's really coming along as a player.

Looking on spatial jam Cameron has a mutual option for next season.

Insurance for Delly in the short term, to replace him longer term?

Long-term you would think he'll be in the NBA.

I would expect so, but this may be a fallback position.

Alternatively, who better to help him achieve the NBA than Vickerman and the United system? Perhaps Vickerman is trying to help him get there.

Yes agreed that would definately be the objective. Vickerman has a great record with White and Travers taking the next step. United will need to start thinking about introducing some younger guard talent with CG/Delly/Illi all the wrong side of 30.

Hukporti also did very well under Vickerman, he's such a good coach at the fundamentals.

Great news

Ili And Delly coming off contract I believe?

Both signed 2 year deals before 23/24. So interesting times ahead

So if they've signed Dash and he's only signed to play in the rotation.. who's the odd one out from a minutes perspective?

I assume that Ian Clark's the odd one out here and Melbourne will go after an import 3, but is there going to be minutes for Flynn Cameron as well?

Flynn mutual option next year assuming he will be gone.

United could retire Delly.

Cameron's shown plenty and could become a United player for many years like CG, Ili, Barlow. I'll be disappointed if they let him walk.

I'd rather they offer him 2 years on top of the option, effectively locking him in for 3 years.

United only really makes sense for Daniels if they are shaking up their backcourt, which I imagine it might be time to do given the ages of Goulding/Ili/Delly/Clark. I'd love to see Cameron go to NZ, but the Breakers seem less focused on having local NZ talent these days.

I would love to have Cameron playing for my team, period. And I'm confident that most other teams would love to have him.

The one place I wouldn’t want him to go is Sydney - it would hurt his progress too much.

Looking at the guard contract situation Dellavedova, Goulding, Daniels are under contract next season. Cameron mutual option and Ili free agent.

Realistically Melbourne can only keep one of Ili or Cameron and will then get an import 2/3 that can score assuming Daniels has been promised a role.

Delly/Ili or Cameron
Goulding/Daniels
Import/

We assuming Clark is gone at the end of the season?

They are not letting Illi go, Breakers should offer both Cameron and Illi good contracts they have a coach that would use them very nicely.

Delly's a free agent at the end of the season.

Essentially,

- CG, Krebs and Daniels are signed on
- You'd expect an import small - whether Clark again or someone else
- Therefore you'd think only two of Delly, Ili and Cameron will be retained.

It's a brutal business but Cameron will be 25 next season, while Delly and Ili will be 35 and 33. So I'm prioritising Cameron.

Another reason to prioritise Cameron is he's more of a combo guard which fits alongside Dash Daniels who is a point guard.
