Will Magnay MVP

Let's say the jackjumpers keep winning at a high clip the rest of the season and finish somewhere between 4-6 and Magnay stays healthy tacks on two more points and rebounds to his current averages is he a top 5 MVP candidate? For mine he will be all nbl first team and DPOY.
He is the Jackie’s most important player, tone setter and is now playing good minutes every game. Roth has ultimate trust in him on both ends and plays him until he needs a breather. Magnays ability to switch onto smaller players and stay in front of them or meet them at the rim if they do get past him is basically unmatched by any other big in the league.
For me Sydney are too deep for cooks to be a true contender and I think they may stay inconsistent all season, New Zealand are looking very shaky the last few games so could end up struggling down the stretch as they struggle currently with big man depth and the addition of tacky fall mucking things up. I think the main contenders will be bryce and then Harrell. But even still this leaves 1-2 spots in that top 5 and I think Magnay could squeeze in there.
If the Jackie’s start to realise almost every time they give the ball to Magnay down low good things happen so begin to give it to him more his scoring and assist numbers will tick up automatically. In my opinion he is the best Aussie centre in the NBL and the best on the defensive end regardless of position(closely followed by illi).
What do you think

JJ's team MVP perhaps but no.

14.1p, 6.6r, 1.6b are not MVP numbers.

It will probably be Cotton or PJC who are 20 ppg guys.

PJC and Cotton are the best two, then daylight. Magnay has been great but imo gets away with body fouls other fives don't. If the refs called it the same for all and I like how Magnay goes about it would be better. Also Magnay quite often gets the ball clean but hits the player after the original clean block for no call. You hit Cotton or any shooter, Goulding etc after a shot they are straight to the stripe. So yes Magnay has been great but seems to be the refs pet at present imo.

Mags is still on an upwards trajectory imo like MacDonald at the JJs. He can dominate games and other bigs like that playin final against Illawarra last season which put him back on NBA radars. He has become very consistent and very very good. I would not swap him for any other big in the NBL. He also has that grit, spirit and fight that is the essence of the JJs. Goorj judged him the best of the local bigs last year with Olympic selection. I definitely think he is in the defensive player of the year conversation and all first team conversation. If the JJs went on a tear from here and won the whole thing again on the back of him dominating games then maybe that puts him in the conversation but high scoring guards generally have the inside running and agree with Dunkman that PJC and Cotton are well clear of the pack at the moment.

Cant agree that two guys whose teams are 8-7 and 7-6 have daylight between them and the rest.

What about the guy who's
- consistently been amongst the best players on a 12-4 team
- leading the league in rebounding
- plays 3 positions, allowing his team to cover for injuries and foul issues
- can defend almost anyone in the NBL on a switch
- One of the only guys in the league who has shut down Montrezl Harrell

He's been the best player on a 12-4 team but he's consistently been good. Hasn't had many poor games at all

Unlike say PJC, who had minimal impact last night while his team got thrashed by 30

There is a world outside Melbourne, LV. Jack White averages 13 ppg, not happening.

yeah it 100% wont happen, you're right. the things he brings arent valued as much as scoring

Im not suggesting he's favourite but there’s no daylight between him and the leaders

I remember having a 'conversation' with a MU supporter this time last year who described Magnay as soft and unable to play through injury (not sure why he should) etc etc.

He has proven otherwise, does not need to prove anything to online commentators such as us but damn he plays smart and hard.

Do not believe he will be in MVP discussions that goes to shooters and Bryce Cotton owns it at this stage.

Do know that Magnay is legit and stating this does not take away from other players who are also legit.....you can state that!

Whataboutism is not substance!

There is class out there in the NBL!!!

MVPs are geared towards offence so that is against him. And stats don't necessarily tell the full story, but 6 rpg and under 2 blocks isn't eyecatching. It would take at least 12rpg and 3+ blocks to get in the conversation.
