SEM v Perth 2.30 aedt

Cats starting to show form, SEM new coach 2nd game, Hunter v Pinder will be decisive, if Hunter gets into foul trouble Pinder will dominate. Hurt can score, can he defend. SEM are a chance, just think that cats are not going to let this slip. Cats by 15.

Windler is out with Shin soreness. Seems to be a repeat of Michael Frasier with a season ahead of missing games. Should be moved on for someone that is not suffering with niggling untreatable conditions. The NBL season is too short for keeping a new import on the books that cant string 2 games together.

I agree on Windler, it's unfortunate as he has the skills and rep to be a force but playing 50% of the season is not worth it. Can also see Rillie stubbornly keeping him if the injuries continue.

35-23 SEM after one, King has put in defensive strategies, plus running a free offence at pace, this SEM team is a total different team with the same players. I'll take my hat of to Hurt at both ends. Cats struggling, got play D.

So far Sobey is playing 100x better since Kelly sacking. A lot more player movement and instinctive actions around him. Looking for his teammates, controlling tempo. Getting back rebounding and playing defence. Good to see.

Maybe if Rillie spent more time coaching and less time bitching theyd be doing better. The only instruction ive heard him give to his team is "communicate" everything else is bitching at referees - control the controllables. That charge call glover got was bad, but banging on about 4-0 and asking for a goaltend for touching the backboard when sobey didnt touch the backboard just shows he needs to be mentally tougher and start coaching his team.

A few calls against cats, it happens on all home courts. Rillie calling out Sobey as a poor defender and getting bailed out by refs. SEM missed five free throws already. Sobey been better but still to many mistakes. Hunter and Glover great pick ups for SEM now with good coaching. Cats hanging tough though. Pinder got lift, Hunter been better at present. Very good game.

Oh how half the nbl coaches don't get t'd up immediately I don't know, but that's also on the ref's. If you did it consistently they would shut up. The other issue is, Rillie is justified in complaining as they were letting everything go under the Perth basket, sobey shoved a shooter in the stomach on a layup, rec league ref's can call that. At one point sem had like 6 blocks for 1 foul.... that just doesn't happen, especially in the nbl...

Sobey 4 to, Hurt 3 turnovers, probably only thing that's hurt SEM. Great commentary team. Windler big loss for cats, height and D sorely missed. Henshall shooting so erratic, all net or misses everything. Good game, SEM can sneak a win here, finals could be back on.

Hmm, said sem was all over Perth. Getting a couple obvious calls can change the game, they were bad misses. What coaching can you do, don't settle for threes, attack the paint, don't get fouls called, d won't collapse, regularly in transition d means easy buckets the other way. What happened when the foul count evened up... sem should be up, they are playing better, but it should never have been that big a margin in my opinion, also if pinder doesn't get a call he drops his bundle, so I need at least one or he is hard to support

Sobey looking more like 36ers Sobey again. Worst thing for him was going to the Bullets got comfortable and lazy. If he keeps playing with this intensity he could turn SEM around even without Walton.

This is not smart from Perth, where we really miss trev, slow down run through the offence and be calm, headless chickens atm. Foul on Okwera a joke too, every second pick in the league is a foul then.

I'm still not liking what I see from sobey. Awful shot selection and a couple of momentum killers. Seems to find it hard to keep passing in mind

Perth I think are out of this now and only really because they aren't willing to play tough

Gee I agree though the reffing has been bad and in SEMs favour

Glover just bumped Harris on a put back, no call, after tai drove with heaps of contact, no call.... sem 3 at the other end... obvious calls matter. A 12 pt margin is significantly different then 22

Glover plus 20, Sobey has had a few dumb plays but overall best game in years. Agree re Hurt, excellent offence, leaves a bit to be desired on defence, doesn't look that fit either. King been a great pick up, it’s different for SEM that normally go for the old mates act.

I can see wildcats season taking a slide if no one's willing to put some hard work into D. It's been embarrassingly easy for SEM to get to the hoop and when they haven't glover and hurt hitting open threes

Pepper blocked? Body contact in back, no foul.... this is why coaches and players are frustrated. It's not basketball it's just a fix. And it's not necessary, sem has played well and deserves the credit.

A foul on this pepper drive called... so which is it? Seems the same play and same contact with a different result... sem should have an easy 10pt win, but the game should have been interesting... not this blowout

Yep, agree d was not great Friday. Hopefully Rillie is gone soon, sadly I doubt it happens. This game again showed the flaws in his "coaching" and in our roster construction. Pinder is just not it, consistently he is a 3rd or 4th banana at best

If I hadn't seen it, I wouldn’t believe it. King coaching reminds me of how Buford coached the kings without screaming at the refs. Perth got to many down hill skiers, starting with their marquee, he only played 18 minutes, why, even their blue collar guys are not that blue collar, Doolittle, Wagstaff excluded. If Cotton not back soon and cats defence doesn’t improve they not top four material. Windler will help though. On the SEM side if they can claw their way into finals they could trouble all sides, coach King seems to be very concise on how he wants both ends played and isn’t scared of letting them know. Very enjoyable game.

2 starters missing was always going to be a tough ask on a short turnaround road game, but that's no excuse for lacking effort in the opening minutes.

Weak stuff.

Windler's fragility is a worry.

Going back to the Tatum story, how did Rillie not get a tech. It looked like he was even trying to get T'd up, one of those rally the troops and us against the world ones. But short of actually losing his shit, he gets away with it. Maybe he had a valid reason for some complaints, but he needed a no more warning, then a tech. I really don't think there could be much of an argument why that behaviour didn't deserve one. If anything if he gets one for less complaining it'll show how inconsistent the refs are.
Maybe he needed to be taller, deeper voiced and blacker to get one.
