They are being moved to Sundays.
I think clubs were only told last week.
Late notice considering lot have already had tryouts.

What was the rationale for the changes?

Court and ref pressures. I guess 18/19 year olds like to go out on a Friday so might help retain players in the age bracket.

If it's true then it makes sense for several reasons.

-Court availability
-Availability of Officials. More opportunity for Officials to do more games and earn more $$$
-Coaches will be able to coach more teams (eg. A coach could coach both a Fri nite team and a Sun team. Less pressure on Associations to find VJBL coaches

It gives BV the opportunity to make more money because more U20s teams could be accomodated. And more players will be retained moving up from U18s because there will be ops for them to continue to play at Rep level if they are not ready to move up to YL.

This also could be the first move towards creating a new U23 Rep competition to keep players in the game for longer.

And moving games to Sundays limits the ops for players to play Rep basketball and Aussie Rules at the same time. So it is a way of trying to stop players from moving sports.

Good question.

The podcast didn't really address the impact on Domestic competitions that are run on Sundays.

But I get the impression that BV views Sunday Domestic competitions and VJBL U20 competitions as appealing to different player audiences.

Domestic comps may have to change and adapt to accommodate U20s on a Sunday.

Indeed. It doesn't sound like scheduling courts is going to be an issue because the plan is to run U20 rounds using a Conference system in a Hub type format . So U20 games won't be spread across a large number of venues.

And how many players who will be serious about playing VJBL U20s play domestic competitions on Sunday afternoons / evenings anyway?

So, if domestic competitions don't have to worry about losing courts, and are unlikely to lose many, if any, players, that issue might be overblown.

One way to protect domestic competitions will be to not allow players who are eligible to play VJBL U18s to play up to U20s under any circumstances.

VJBL U20s should be exclusively for players who turn 18yo or 19yo in the same calendar year the season is conducted in. (Not permitted to play in U20 if the player turns 17yo in that calendar year)
