Anstey's NBL greatest of all time

Does anyone have Code Sports- if so, please list Anstey's greatest of all time

Apparently includes 12 Aussies and 6 imports

With only 5 minutes of thought- so I'll probably miss some. I'd guess something like:

Aussies:

Gaze
Bradtke
Anstey (if he includes himself- which he should!)
Mackinnon
Penney
Smyth
Vlahov
Maher
Rogers
CJ Bruton
Sengstock
Morseu

Imports:
Loggins
Cotton
Fisher
Then 3 of- Davis, Rose, Grace, D-Mac, Lisch and Jackson

With honourable mentions to

CG43, Martin, Heal, Cal Bruton, Copeland, Rucker and a few others

Perhaps some of them deserve spots but I'd need more than 5 minutes!

Kirk Penney stands out, amazing player, didn't actually play much in the NBL, I’d say Heal had more impsct over his career, I’d take Heal over Rogers and Maher too

Penney would've played 7 or 8 seasons?

CG43 and Martin deserve to be there

I was just trying to avoid recency bias and give a nod to those who influenced the early days (which was before my time) like Morseu

Morseu and Smyth are before my time (well, caught the tail-end of Smyth - post-Canberra days), and so hard for me to gauge. Martin is a legend but I struggle to put him over the other big names. Maybe the best role player of all time. I'd have CG43 in, Heal begrudgingly (ie. ignoring everything off the (basketball) court)). Agree that Anstey should have himself in the list, one of the best in the league during his prime.

Is this Anstey's best of all-time or what LV thinks Anstey's best should be?

Both

either/or

Was wondering what his list was, and in the process, listed a quick guess which is, of course, my (very rough) list

Martin, I think the term "role player" can be used pejoratively, if we're talking about guys like Martin (or say, Ben Wallace or Dennis Rodman in the NBA) who genuinely change games by being uber-elite at the less glamorous half of basketball.

Cheers Dmc

Saw an ad and assumed it was new. CG43 would've probably pushed his way in since then, after his great season last year

Interesting he places Crawford above Fisher. Team mates for years. This was when I was a very young fella, but based purely on resume Fisher's superior

Some criteria perhaps to define the list

To be an all time great you must have achieved in say 3/5 categories of the following:

League MVP
Top 5 in the league in one major stat category at least 3 times
GF MVP
HOF
Minimum of 200 games

Otherwise people are just suggesting names.

I just think it's LV getting overly excited because it's a Tigers great's opinion, 18 months old too.

It's interesting that one of the NBL's all-time greats has done a list of all-time greats

If Smyth or Loggins did a similar list I'd be similarly interested

Just like Ruckers top 15 current players is also worth discussion.

Kirk Penney played 6 seasons for the Breakers and 1 for the Illawarra Hawks.
NZ National teams all time leading scorer and 2024 inductee into FIBA Hall of Fame.
4X All NBL First Team
1x All NBL Second Team
1x NBL MVP (08/09)

Great to see a kiwi on Anstey's list.

Ray Borner?

First world class centre we ever had

4 time Olympian
4 world cups

Was first ever local born league MVP in 1985

Still made all NBA third side in 1995

It's hard to understate his impact to the league in the mid-late 80's

Ray Borner for sure, he was this country's first, and leagues first (local) legit big man.

Kirk Penney, a dominant 7 years but only 187 games, does he meet the longevity criteria??

I like the criteria posted above but would make an exception for Penney.

Fisher is stiff to miss out but who do you leave out? Crawford should be a lock he's still in the all time top 3 for points, rebounds and blocks
