Cairns 17-2 run vs. Adelaide

The older threads aren't working right now and I'm sure everybody is itching to discuss that 17-2 fourth quarter run in Cairns tonight.

Those Adelaide dirty tricksters haven't changed have they. Still no good.

Out at the moment but I'll take a look later and see what’s caused it. Likely server out of disk space or corrupted database table.

There were moments where Adelaide looked closer to an NBL1 side than an NBL side. The depth isn't there.

I maintain they are an import short - they should try to get a short term big with a bit of scoring if they can and then when Jarell returns he can replace that player and hopefully they manage to keep Trez to roll with 3 imports.

They need to figure out how to have Trez and Humphries on court together, it’s too disruptive to have Humphries on the bench for long periods, but they’re shit whenever Trez is off.

Davis probably needs to shoot more Randle style. If we go through a cold period, DJV tends to also go through that cold period, so we need him to step up in those moments.

Humphries is woefully down on confidence, either just flinging up shots he shouldn't take or missing/passing out of easy baskets he should be making. It puts you into a really difficult position though, do you play him through it and hope he can turn it around? Or so you start Trez at the 5, but then maybe kill Humphries confidence even more. The teams complete lack of perimeter D is a killer too, teams are just lighting them up from 3 and it's killing any ability they have to hold onto a decent lead.

Rigoni at least showed a decent stroke from deep this game, so that's the first time I've seen something decent from him. People are "if Ninnis was here..." ing the situation, but he couldn't make up for the lack of depth this team has at the moment. For once in many years I'm actually leaning towards coaching not being the problem at the moment, just need more effort and care on doing the stuff that won't make the highlight reels.

Adnam was looking like Steve Nash against that 36ers D!

Adelaide is cursed. With all the people they've screwed over, they need a shaman to undo their karmic debts.

Signing a G-League kid to run the team was a mistake as expected. If Davis doesn't improve rapidly he'll need to be replaced. Perhaps bring him off of the bench to ease him into it and start Cadee who makes a point to feed Humphries? I'm not liking Humphries piss poor efforts out there but I would try that first before benching Humphries.

Looks like another tough year for the Sixers. That was pretty woeful performance last night.
Won't win anything when you have Humphries, Dech and Davis in your starting five.
I don’t see why Humphries is regarded that good a player. He’s terrible! Slow, soft, poor shot shooter (air balling post moves missing layups) and is a light post on defence (players walking around him to the rim) and offers no rim protection. How the hell he starts over Harrell is beyond me. The plus minus between the two must speak volumes.
Dech is a bench player in the NBL not a starter. Ok defender with limited offensive game.
As for Davis, why do we see the other teams get these really good import guards and Adelaide gets ones that just aren’t the same calibre.
Gonna be an another missed season if things don’t change quickly.

Davis had 14 points (yes his shooting was off), 8 assist and 1 turnover. He was +6 (Second best in the team)

Against Sydney
11 (Bad shooting % again), 8 assist and 4 turnovers. 5th best in +/-

His shooting has been off and defense needs to pick up but the assist has been #1 in the league

Humphries is the issue not Davis

and the other issue is not playing Starling last night (Unless he was injured/Sick) when they needed a strong defensive player. Boys club Rigoni (I don't care that he finally hit a couple of shots, he is still a slow unathletic defensive liability) shouldn't have been on in front of Starling

Davis is 22nd in the league in scoring at 12.5 ppg with the worst FG% of those Top 22 shooting an absymal 30% from the field at 15 FGA per game. He's 2nd in assists and weak defensively.

Humphries has been terrible but he's an Aussie so with a guaranteed contract at best he can only be moved to the bench. Davis can be cut within the first 7 games without having to pay out his contract for the rest of the season.

I would be staring Cadee for the time being with the expectation he will feed Humphries and bring Davis off of the bench to sharpen his focus against other benchies with a view to cutting him before the 7 game mark if he doesn't significantly improve.

I'm not worried about Davis yet. He shot it well in pre-season and looks to have all the physical ability and skills he needs to succeed. He just looks to me like he is still feeling out what he can and can't do in this league. He's been creating easy looks for himself and others, even against tough defenders like Bul Kuol, his shots are just not going down. He does need to work on a better two man game between him and Humphries though. If Mike Wells knows what he is doing, he should be working out how to open up passing angles for those two.

Disappointing to lose to Cairns when they are relying on Adnam as their point guard, but they should be given a fair amount of credit for a really high level performance. Where I think the Sixers went wrong was not pressuring Cairns up the floor at every opportunity. Unfortunately, we have a coach who is brand new to the league and doesn't know enough about his opponents.

Like Daffy Duck, management has shot itself in the face again with another coaching change just before the season starts. It's gonna put us behind in the early part of the season, but unlike the past 6 seasons, I feel like we actually have enough top end talent to compete.

So I'm not freaking out yet. Just watching to see how Wells goes improving the defence, getting Humphries playing good ball and managing Trez influence on the team (which I think has been both good and bad so far).

Maybe if humphries didnt have to sit next to the GM, and owner when subbed out he might feel a little more comfortable.

Really poor for them to be near players dying the game , GM is either on the bench indirectly behind it so far this season

Come on mate , know your place on game day

Certainly Humphries has been a major disapponitment this season but has always been a confidence player. Not brilliant defensively but can be effective offencively if used and fed properly. The big difference in scoring occurs when Trez is on the court. The defence sags back onto him opening up the perimiter for open outside shots. As soon as he goes off with Humphires returning, not only does the inside offence dry up but the outside shooters no longer get easy shots. Defending the three point shot has been an issue for the 36ers for several seasons. Perhaps more obvious this year as the quality of three point shooters has improved.

The losing margins have only been small both games so far but it is the long streaks when the 36ers cannot score and the oppostition go on a run that appears to be the main issue. Regardsless of the inexperience of the coach with the NBL, surely most of the players know how to defend - just a matter of them actually making the effort at times.

Agree with Dech not being a starter and perhaps if Trey Kell had been retained as the third import, it may have made a big difference. Time will tell if the management will finally see what all the fans can see and actually do something about it. Will be yet another long season otherwise.
