Perth vs Sydney - Fri 27th Sept - 9:39pm EST

Game of the round? Championship series preview? Expect some fireworks.

Would expect Kuol goes to Cotton, Doolittle to Adams, Hyrum Harris to Cooks.

Tipping Perth by 4 due to the home advantage, but could go either way.

Surely Pinder goes to Cooks, I can't see Harris slowing down the flow of Cooks. Kuol on Cotton, now that could be great, Kuol got keep his hands out though and use his length. Oliver could cause some havock, been great inside and out. Perth next star could go screaming up the draft if he can get hold of him. Both sides are well coached, kings probably slightly deep roster, so many different match ups.

Should be an amazing game, refs been much better this season so far, cats home court could make a difference but imo if kings stay cool they can get this by a few.

Should be a cracker. Hopefully I can stay awake for the second half.

No tip from me, can see this going either way.

I'm keen to see how rotations and strategy play out. Despite only being Round 2, I think this is a game where each team is wanting to plant a flag in the sand and will go hard for the W.

Sebastian... last year Doolittle clamped Milton Doyle for the semis, and had PJC for a few games. Would expect him to get their best perimeter player but maybe Webster instead.

Reply #950451 | Report this post

No doubt Doolittle is Perth's best defender but if he goes to Adams who do Cotton Webster match up on? One of them ends up on Toohey.

Kings don't really have a starter you can "hide" someone on. Perth have two.

Cotton isn't a defensive bunny and I would have him on Adams before Webster.

Pinder will always be Pinder gotta take the good with the bad. He can be a butterfingers and turnover machine one quarter and then brilliant the next. Windler looks the goods and crashes the boards hard

Cracking game

Doolittle defending Adams. Good call MaxM

That small ball line up by Perth in Q4 was disorientating to watch. They've found a shooter in Pepper, too bad about the last couple

Wish I had Adams in supercoach

Cracking game by both sides.
Refs this season letting the game flow, been fantastic.
Commentary great
Defence wins big games, cats first quarter D was poor, it cost them.
Cotton, Windler and Doolittle fantastic
Pepper very good, cats need a bit more out of the rest of their locals.
Crowd so influential there.
Adams, Oliver, Cooks, Toohey also fantastic, kings bench contribute a little more.
Kings would probably think they should have won by more though, cats can feel hard done by Pinder either being crook or poor.
Again fantastic game, tough, skill full and exciting. Absolute great package.

Perth with too many turnovers as usual and go through long periods of poor defense. Its laughable Rillie gets re-signed for 3 more before the season starts and nothing has changed from last year except for a couple of new players. No plan B and cant take care of the ball when the pressure is on.
Kings D excellent and Goorj has the team so well drilled already its scary how good they could get to.

Goorijan gets his team to play physical and pressure the refs to make a call. Sydney team suits him with their size and depth. Was a bruising game.

They made life very tough for cotton from the get go.
Windler started to show some class, he can only improve.
Rillie showing growth making some adjustments with the staring 5 not working.

Great game.

I liked Peppers defensive intensity and energy pushing the ball as much as his hot hand. Him and Henshall will play crucial roles off the bench this year. Windler has the potential to take over a game hopefully more improvement to come

20 turnovers - won't win many games conceding that and the end the Cats were flattered by the margin. Hopefully Rillie continues to give minutes to the players in form.

Websters silly two fouls in the first quarter set the tone for his game and Pinder seemed to be a turnover machine tonight.

Great to see someone with a real appetite for rebounding in Windler and someone with real energy, shooting and smarts in Pepper. Doolittle and Cotton continued to do what they do.

If they can sort out the turnovers and play the players who bring the intensity, the cats should go ok this year

Let's take a step back

Sydney won that game partially because Oliver and Cooks won a couple of crucial O Boards against much smaller opponents

With Pinder out there in the final minutes, probably a different result

Henshall missed too.

Two games in a row Kings have looked great in stretches but struggled at other times.

Sunday will tell us plenty.

What did the telecast say about the goaltend on the free throw? Was it not counted at 2pts? Why not?

Reply #950524 | Report this post

Sebastian

Interpretation 31-27, the ball was within the basket when touched thus it only counts as one point. If the ball was not with in the basket it would have changed it's status to 2 points

Lol LV the only reason the cats got so close was because Pinder wasn't on the floor. Rillie went with the small ball because Pinder was being a turnover machine and just standing on the three point line because he dropped a few last game. The cats need to tidy up the turnovers and team defense if they're any chance of a championship. Too many times Adams was able to find space and get some easy looks. Albeit he was good enough to knock down tough shots also

Rillie needs to rejig the starting 5. Start Windler over Harris , he would have 20 boards maybe in todays game. Consider Pepper/Henshall for more scoring punch to avoid early denial on Cotton.

Pinder was horrible, good decision by coach to bench him for most of the game. Assuming maybe was ill.

Yeah, the live ball ones in particular are such momentum-killers.
The awful start was always going to make things tough, but those t/o's were what I hated the most. (Some credit must go to Sydney's D, but plenty were just dumb plays by us)

What did the telecast say about the goaltend on the free throw? Was it not counted at 2pts? Why not?

I was curious about that as well. It seemed like a considered decision by the refs.

Eh, was a bad turnover game, I think the cats averaged less than 12 last season and gave up less than that last week and all pre season.

Adding Henshall as the secondary ball handler will help.

The starting 5 was very effective last season and Harris was the secondary playmaker. A fit Doolittle has made that role a bit redundant this season and hurts the spacing. I think starting Windler as the second shooter (it's only his 3rd game with the team and the first one with extended minutes) will help.

Plus the offence off the bench should be higher this year with Henshall and Pepper both showing they can score.

I'm not too worried if we can clear up the turnovers.

On another note have to hand it to Goorjan I don't think many coaches could handle the egos on Sydney and have them playing effectively, but if they want to win the ship they need more out of the people who aren't Cooks/Adams/Oliver. I think the freeway series will be fun as position/size wise they would match up well.

Where did the talk about Pinder being ill come from? And even if he was it doesn't account for his horrendous decision making when on the floor. Hopefully it was just a one off, and he gets his head back in the game before the next outing.

Damien Martin suggested he was crook in the telecast, said it had to be because he was doing badly. He's an athlete, looked great in Cairns but like Sobey they find it hard to play with other stars. If he was sick then he probably gets a pass but needs to improve against the big guns. Windler looks great, exactly what cats need.

Reply #950544 | Report this post

Bol

Sick or not Pinder is so inconsistent and there is too large of a gap between his best and worst. He could be a beast on the boards with his size and athletecism but hes not a good defender and makes so many low IQ plays trying to be too cute in offense. I hope he keeps improving his game but its a worry when the teams title chances really hinge on him holding down the 5 spot and webster at PG.
