Warrandyte Basketball Association

What is going on at Warrandyte Basketball Association since the new committee has been elected the operations manager has been sacked the elected Vice President, Secretary and 3 committee remembers have resigned due to not being able to work with current President then the coach of the YLW team resigned now the club has sacked the coach of YLM team this week.

The association is being run by a President who will not address questions by the members in a public forum

Basketball Victoria needs to step in and ensures the President address the members in a public forum and allow the members to ask questions about their Association

Hardly surprised to hear this. WBA has long been subjected to intense off-court politics, leading to its total demise

Since my original post I have spoken to a lot of people and I am shocked that the Warrandyte Association could get themselves into such a mess in less 5 months. It is bad enough that elected committee members stood down due to alleged bullying but then the President appoints a work colleague and friend to the committee and then the inbred appointment continued.

To explain the current committee structure President - Darren McGinty (Elected only after sitting President withdrew his nomination at AGM)
Vice President Michael Davey replaced elected Vice President after he stood down re bullying allegations. This was a Presidential appointment
Treasurer David Corr elected unopposed.
Secretary Bret Kimpton replaces elected secretary who resigned
General Comment Danny Evans, Nicole Swan and David Burden BV replace the 3 general committee members who could not work with President.

The committee is only made up of 4 people from the AGM and only 2 of the of the 9 committee members were voted in by the members

We look at the tangled web with these appointments Darren McGinty and Danny Evans are friends and work Colleagues Michael Davey coaches Danny Evans daughter and David Kimpton's daughter in U12 Girls.
Danny Evans coaches one of his own daughters plus David Corr’s and David Burden’s daughter plus along with that Nicole Swan a relation of Danny Evans is assistant coach of this team the U14 Girls

The question a lot of members are asking is this committee a true representation of the members or a stack committee controlled by the President.

Tomorrow this author will investigate the alleged allegations of racism against certain members of the club.

It is a pity a lot of members are scared to speak openly for fear of being victimised.

Understand your frustration but try as you might to voice dissatisfaction if it makes to BV ears the President will be told to get his house in order and this will include getting you in order. Unfortunately as a parent you will be discredited before you can get the Posse together.

Warrandyte Basketball Update

As a member and resident of Warrandyte I believe the clubs President and committee have a responsibility to make themselves available to answer questions from the members in a public forum.
Today's question for the President is the alleged allegation of bully of a candidate wishing to nominate for the committee election at the last AGM.

I was told 2 current committee members phoned the candidate and told him to withdraw his nomination as his type was not welcome at the club. Is it true that his type was that he is of Chinese Heritage. If this is correct this is nothing short of racism.

Movingsreen thank you for your concern but this is a problem I cannot walk away from.
My agenda is to ensure all members of Warrandyte are fully aware of the poor behaviour of the people who now represent the Association.
Your accusation of me forming a posse is so far wrong this is one person with no intention of forming a posse who has taken up the fight to expose poor behaviour of the current committee.

This agenda ends when the President conducts an open forum with all the members where he is prepared to answer the members concerns.

To Massive
As I said in my last post I will walk on one condition. That being the President addressing the members in a public forum we he is prepared to answer questions from the members.
Until then I will continue to expose the poor behaviour of the club

Tonight I will expose the next allegation against the club.

Unfortunately LC others have tried to get the Committee to answer questions by the members by seeking a special AGM but the committee refused the request of these members.

Hence this is the last avenue of getting the answer being asked.

I am acting alone but for the benefit and the future of all members.

This forum and the people on it I ask you to support what I am trying achieve. Other wise the past 50years of Warrandyte Basketball has been a waste of time.

Your support to correct poor behaviour by the committee is required

Hoops isn't the forum for 'action’ but I’m sure warrandyte will see all this.
It’s basketball Victoria I guess that you could engage. But the track record for action is poor until the mess is too far gone (hawthorn for example). But are we talking mismanagement? Or the bullying issue alone? also a BV thing, but perhaps a different person in the office?

When people step down mid term isn’t it normal that the positions may get filled at the remaining members advice.
Obviously all to be voted on at the next AGM?

It is getting the message out there that bullying and racism are not acceptable at any level of basketball and I will use every forum available to stamp it out

If you don't believe what I am saying is right then I wish you the best but don’t interfere with the cause

Tonight I let the basketball industry know the current Warrandyte committee is overseeing a club with a racist element
It is alleged an Assistant coach in the girls program made a comment along the lines why does the club have a full team of Asian players. Then there was another alleged incident where a life member made a similar comment.
I am embarrassed to say I am a Warrandyte person with such racist comments being made within the club
To all the people at Warrandyte there is no rule that prevent a full team of Asian players.

you need to calm down and follow the correct channels. dont make it a personal crusade. put everything in writing to the governing body otherwsie you risk being a vigilante and looking a fool.

In reply to Massive and Baller 23

A group of members tried your approach and requested a Special Meeting of the Association and informed BV

Outcome 2 people involved now no longer working for the club and no meeting

Where is BV

The crusade will continue do people in basketball not believe racism and bully exists at Club level

Got any other advice

Perhaps try something outside of BV given the nature of your issue:

Just vote with your feet and leave if its that bad.

Plenty of other clubs out there.

The way your talking about it you'd think your trying to bring down a corrupt government, not a local basketball club.

Hi Gerard (AKA The Voice of Reason), It's good to have you back on this site. If anyone wants to see some of his handy work, check out this previous thread (type 'Censorship' in the Hoops search.

Unfortunately the President at Warrandyte Basketball still refuses to talk to the members so tonight I continue to outline more issues at the club

It is alleged that certain members have made a statement if there are Asians at the club next year they will take their children else where

If you want to help end this post email
[email protected]

And say what club you are from and for the good of basketball call a meeting of your members

Over 100 Warrandyte have requested in a letter to to the club we now need your help

And basketball needs your help

Gerard, we need more people like you brother. Let's be honest - poor old basketball needs more people like you.

Let's start a group: MBGA (Make Basketball Great Again). I'll make the red hats with MBGA written on them. #thecrusade #MBGA. We can build a wall around Warrandyte!

Maybe Voice of reason and some people need to read their clubs constitution and understand how many members of the club they need to instigate a special general meeting.
I would be relatively confident that all of this stuff would be covered in your "articles of association/constitution“.
