Filipino’s or half Filipinos in the NBL OR NBL1

I'm just responding to a write up about a year ago when it was stated that the only way a person or group of Filipinos will watch NLB or NBL1 basketball is IF there are Filipinos or half Filipinos in the leagues. Well, I’m here to say that there IS a half Filipino/half African American in the league. His name is CJ ASUNCION-BYRD #3 and he plays for Sandringham Sabres and he was a development player for Melbourne United. CJ previously played for Ringwood and Nunawading. He came from playing basketball in college in America and being an Aussie citizen - CJ stayed!! The Sandringham Sabres season is still ongoing (this 2024 season) and would LOVE to see FILIPINOS at the Sandringham Sabres games come and represent on his behalf!! They play away at Dandenong tonight at 8pm. So, now the ball is in your court!! There may not be many Filipinos in the league yet but this a BRILLIANT START!!!

CJ may have been brought over and classified as an import - BUT CJ is an Aussie! He left Aus when he was 3 yo and his Mum (Filipina) married an American. He never relinquished his Aussie status. He was born in TOWNSVILLE and WAS a dev player for MU.

Jhazmin Joson currently plays for the Goldfields Giants in NBL1 West.

Recently played for the Philippines in the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup tournament in Singapore. She is eligible to play as a 'local' in NBL1 due to being from an Asian country.

Keeping with the Ringwood connection, Philippine national women's team member Jack Danielle Animam is currently playing for Ringwood in NBL1 South.
