Next Stars Future Program? It must be the Off Season!

Not much real news, although what is there, is great. Here's something we can think about, make things up about and while away time 'til the season gets closer.

I spent what little of what I still have available to mull over a NS program as as a 2-year deal.

1st year, much as it is now. If not drafted ...

2nd year, club till has player's rights. (With or without options for 2nd year?). Same NBL $ contribution for 2nd season. Club can pay more - with a limit - that does NOT impact Salary Cap at all. If club doesn't require player or the player wants any other 'out', then the club may get a buy-out or the like??
For the prospective player it's a stable start to his career. The first year can concentrate on getting drafted. If he's any good, he isn't thinking "or what?". So, after the shock and disappointment naturally thoughts turn to the future. What better way for this rookie to learn about playing pro, if he is good enough, to continue with the club and to make better decisions for himself during that year. Still needs to earn whatever he gets. Can keep improving his stocks for year 3 and beyond
For the club the advantages are obvious. Know what they are getting, contract already worked out. Have an "asset" if not required?

Worth it or not?

That's exactly how the Next Stars program already works.

As of now, if a Next Star isn't good enough to warrant a second year playing as an import (and obviously not good enough for Europe or NBA), but is good enough to stay on the team can they opt in and take up a spot on the roster whether the club wants him or not?

If that happens can the club get another Next Star playing their first year at the same time?

They still count as a Next Star in their second year.

Yes OK, but if they're crap can they opt in for the second year even if the club doesn't want them or can they be 'delisted'?

It's a two-year contract. There is no "opt-in."

Or you can do 3 years as a next star like Hukporti.

Not enough guys do 2 years especially those young ones. Imagine how much better Flowers would be next year regardless of draft situation.

Hukporti did not do three years.

No answer to any of that. Most sound like good q's and crits. It's absolutely open. My thoughts were "not too radical from 0.1, just some tweaks!" To put a little longevity into the prog all round, for both sides. Loosely, my answer is that the clubs or even the NBL will hold all the cards, as they will be paying.

What rules/option would you like to see?

I'd just like some transparent rules.
