Craig Simpson departs Adelaide 36ers

CLUB STATEMENT: CRAIG SIMPSON

Adelaide 36ers assistant coach Craig Simpson has resigned from the club effective immediately due to family reasons.

Simpson, who joined the club at the start of the NBL24 season, recently took compassionate leave.

Adelaide 36ers CEO Nic Barbato thanked Simpson for his efforts at the club during this season.

"The 36ers organisation appreciate the time and energy Craig brought to the club and sincerely wish him and his family all the best at this time," Barbato said.

Graham Kubank will join the club as an assistant coach with development coach Michael Lake elevated to the assistant coach role.

No surprise here. Short summary of efforts being thanked for:

- Recruitment of Jamal Franklin
- Recruitment of SEM Stars Kell and Smith Milner
- Being hated by the playing group (if reports are to be believed).

It was always odd to me the amount of control he was seemingly given, or took, and CJ didn't reign it back in.

Was reportedly responsible for his guys in Jamal Franklin, Trey Kell and Tohi Smith-Milner being brought in, reportedly developed the entire offense during the pre-season, which then was scrapped once they ditched Franklin since it revolved entirely him and Kell, seemingly controlled in-game substitutions, which resulted in limited guys like Smith-Milner playing 20 minutes a night.

Add to that he's glued to CJ during games and acting like he's the head coach as well, it just adds to the "too many cooks in the kitchen" results we ended up with when you add GK and the CEO adding input with basketball operations too.

Kubank may not do much X and O but he will be a good person on culture to assist Ninnis.

Might be a cynical take on it and apologise if it's actually true but fairly coincidental with all the timing ATM. Why not just say he's left like CJ by mutual decision and leave it at that. Obviously couldn't work with Ninnes and now the coaching panel is at an nbl1 level. Not sure how Kubank can instill any culture into this group when it's been torpedoed by managements directive. What's he going to do, make sure they touch the lines in suicides?
This is really getting ridiculous now. The public really needs to boycott the rest of the season.

Great players even those with deep connection to the club don't necessary make good coaches.

Eg. Mike Ellis, Andrew Gaze, Moose Robbiliard.

Hire him on his coaching merits.

"The Phantom" what a ridiculous fair weather thing to say! Happy for you to “boycott” by yourself and I'm sure you haven’t bought a membership anyway.

Cancel culture can f&$k right off, and anyone who likes it!!

Phantom - not "getting" ridiculous...…….. has been ridiculous for years now!

Hooper - what are you talking about “fair weather”? Are you suggesting this is the first bad thing to happen to this club in the last xox years? It has been a shit show for several years now - bad decision after bad decision. Player recruitment, coach recruitment, admin staf. We have been members for over 25 years and just keep on showing up. Fair weather!?!? When!?!?

The Phantom... do you know Graham Kubank's coaching experience?

Eddie, coached West in local league for a minute and assisted a bit. Any higher level than that?
And referring to fair weather, been in a hurricane for how long now with no respite coming. Yet management will look at crowd figures and spreadsheets and will keep doing the same crap. Only way to stop is to hit the wallet to really hurt the one hurting the club. And no way I would have a membership and giving money to a shitshow.

Based on comments over the past few years about coaching of the 36ers, about half of the regular Forum members would qualify as coaches for the 36ers. Blind Freddie can see the obvious but it is amazing how highly paid and apparently highly credentialed coaches cannot.

The glaring weaknesses in team balance, same defensive mistakes and lack of any system in offence are pointed out with regularity by Forum members. Just need to have the right face or contacts I suppose.
