Early NBL ladder predictions

It's early I know and we haven't had a chance to see many new players in action but with most teams complete time for a predicted ladder thread.

Perth still have an import to sign and Melbourne have a local spot remaining.

My ladder.
Will no doubt differ from yours.

1. Sydney
2. Perth
3. Melbourne
4. NZL
5. SEM
6. Illawarra

7. Tasmania
8. Cairns
9. Brisbane
10. Adelaide

Are United starting the season with only 1 import?

Ian Clark who must be regarded as a "cheaper" style import. Hukporti/JLA and Travers are going to have to all be elite for United to compete imo.

Oh and Ian Clark is one of the most expensive imports. I have no idea why you thought he would be cheap.

Surprised to see the general consensus on here so far is United over SEM. SEM were better last season, and have a more talented roster in my opinion. On top of that, they got would should be a very decent upgrade in coaching (finally).

When I look at United I see a team that is going to struggle to score often. There's really only 1 proven player on the team to start the season that can consistently create his own offense (CG43) until JLA is back. The rest are either (mostly) non-scorers or shooting specialists. Even with JLA back, he's going to need to score 30 PPG for them to stay afloat. There is a clear lack of wing defense with size on this team. Travers and either CG43 or Clark are going to be playing heavy minutes guarding guys like Creek, Wiley, Hogg, etc.

On the other side SEM have one of the best players in the comp in Creek, one of the best 2-way bigmen in Williams, and 2 guards that can create their own offense when needed as well as set up others in Browne and presumably Cummings. Top that off with 2 great wing defenders in Moller and Kenyon, an extremely solid backup big in Vague, and a wildcard in Gak makes them a clear front runner in my book.

SEM have a very good first 4 players however lack depth and shooting. Broekhoff is a big out.

SEM have toughened their roster with additions of Moller and Kenyon, Vague is very handy as well. Broekhoff didn't shoot that well in the nbl either on my recollection. Moller shot the three ball in Germany at 39% on average at three shots a game. Again there is some tough competition but I’d think they make the play inns.

For me it's this for my top 4 in no particular order

Sydney
Melbourne
Perth
NZ

Then this 4 to fight out the other 2 spots , I reckon Tasmania & Hawks get it but the other 2 teams will be in the mix

Hawks
Tasmania
Phoenix
Cairns

Unfortunately these are my last 2, Brisbane will be better than last year & Adelaide will bring up the rear

Brisbane
Adelaide

Situation normal - Taipans predicted to be down near the bottom again. How did that work out for you last season? :)

@Fairy " Oh and Ian Clark is one of the most expensive imports. I have no idea why you thought he would be cheap."

IMO he seems a cheaper option compared to a Rajin Tucker or Hopson style import that United has run with previously. Both were dominant scoring wings, who averaged good scoring numbers. Clark from memory came off the bench at the Kings with underwhelming numbers, so seems a budget signing.

He's definitely not a budget signing!

Don't necessarily disagree that Adelaide are at risk of falling behind this season, but it's not like they are really any worse on paper than last season. Lots just hinges on Humphries, and how the imports go, especially Franklin. Cadee gives them something they lacked last season, I still have faith in McCarron, and I would take a passionate Wiley over a disinterested Franks. Can CJ coach is the big question. Hope for them is they surprise with lesser expectation.

Had to be a 36ers fan to rank them 6th. Extremely optimistic. Best of luck, CJ is a good guy, just don't think he is a good coach

United

Perth
Sydney
Next group of 4 to be oh so close but not quite there
Tassie
Cairns
Illawarra
SEM
Another long season ahead for these two. Maybe the odd glimmer of hope in the early days but will splutter and fade before half way through season me thinks.

Adelaide
