NBA Draft Trivia

Is 1997 the year with the most Aussies drafted with 4 (Anstey, Bruton, Pepper, Rogers).

Cool trivia re: that year, 3 players drafted became Sydney Kings

CJ Bruton, Mark Sanford, Stephen Jackson

Any similar novelty NBL x NBA Draft trivia

*we don't need the "Melbourne produced 3 no. 1 picks again lol*

Can anyone explain why years ago there were so many rounds? Guys who never played basketball were drafted such as Bruce Jenner and Carl Lewis.

Also I'm pretty sure the first Aussie drafted was Ed Palubinskus.

They were drafted as publicity stunts

Fun fact in 1984 the Bulls drafted NBL legend Butch Hays after they picked Michael Jordan at 3

So Butch was drafted by the same team in 1984 as Michael Jordan and Carl Lewis

Can anyone explain why years ago there were so many rounds?

There was no limit to the length of it back then so the draft would only end once the last active team decided to stop selecting players.

This is a good summary:

I don't think he actually played "football" prior to getting drafted. He was just seen as a roughie because of his speed and athleticism.

There's footage of green playing in college, but he never took it serious yet kept being picked for his speed , his first love was basketball followed by Sprinting and we almost lost him to Aussie national team before the 86 championship after the heartbreak from 85 , heart to heart with cole convinced him to play again , he also won the bay Sheffield twice , guy was a legit sprinter
