Westgate Basketball new stadium

Wondering how much help BV are providing Westgate Basketball in their push for the new stadium at McIvor Reserve?

It is important they get a stadium in that area.

It's a good ideal since I work out there sometimes and it’s mostly a factory area but with house prices sky high the workshops are slowly going and more townhouses/units or apartments are getting build instead.

Didn’t notice if they even got a 4 court basketball stadium there. If they did it would be quite small/old school more likely just one or two indoor courts at a school would be my guess.

I've never understood the need for Westgate.

Altona within 10-15
Sunshine within 15-20
Melbourne Tigers 20 mins

It's for Yarraville, there’s just more people.

Dislike what’s going on in Heidelberg. Heard the government wants to rezone the whole area for more high rises. It’s getting ridiculous how this country is going, will soon be like America with a divide of poor and rich. Inflation isn’t helping thanks to the war, what’s next?

in 10-20 years time everyone will want space and the quarter acre block again. Look at controlling interests for our housing future and what we will get.

The stadium in Sunshine is Recwest Braybrook, its an old YMCA 4 court stadium and Westgates current home. They also use the 4 courts at Whitten Oval which are about to be knocked down for the AFL ground redevelopment.

The new 6 court stadium will be the new home for the club which is growing, and the population density in the surrounding area is booming. Braybrook will also be needed as excess courts.

Oh yes I remember seeing the 4 courts in Footscray. Shame they have to knock them down.

Melbourne is known for wasting its money on buildings and then knocking them down. Just like the Boroondara 20 tennis courts in Bulleen for the new freeway getting built. All gone now, just a waste.

Westagte is faster growing than most other Melbourne clubs. High numbers of young people engaging in the sport in that area. its great they are there giving opportunity to an area that traditionally is forgotten.

Problem is the basketball community need to remember there are people playing outside of the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

They are doing some great things at a community level at Westgate. Hope they get some support!

I think BV are going to be more cautious about new clubs for the next few years until they have more refs.
Lack of refs along with lack of scoretable and stats is BV's biggest issue when it comes to admitting new clubs. Clubs are responsible for ST and stats but there is a bigger issue when refs are doing doubles in many cases.

Baccus Marsh have a good ref program and have provided panel refs for a few events and have some refs now doing Big V

They look like having a really good group of local mens players that would see them in top half of D2 with no impact on other associations

The worry is there is not many decent referees that standout that are coming through,CV referees are mostly taught zero communication skills so will struggle once they get to older open age groups, where communication is the key to good officiating,so maybe cap it for a bit.
