Most overrated / underachieved S.A. imports

Interested to hear other people's thoughts on the most overrated / under achieving player imports ever to grace our shores and played in S.A.

A few off the top of my head would be:

J-Wess (What chu want - I wanna see some game)
Lester Fonville (9ft 7 centre played for North Adelaide)
Jo Jo English ( I've never met a shot I didn't like)

Kym Taylor would've got a mention but I struggle to remember him hitting the pine.

Other considerations Mike Corcoran, Charles Thomas and plenty more!

Just remember, Don Monson was a coach - not a player!

I largely agree with your overated comments re Lester but i remember 1 CBA game (when that actually meant it was a good league) where he had 43 pts on 18/19 shhoting 28 boards, 12 blocks and 16 assists.

Only wish he played every game like that.

If you are talking most overeated in the league it would be the Cannons with Rodney Monroe a top 10 NBA draft pick who from memory was cut on foavour of Darnell.

I am not sure if anyone rated Lester for him to considered overratated. Similarly did any anyone actually expect him to achieve for a tag of underachiever to be warranted. Leave the poor guy who signed his name x alone.

have to agree on JoJo what a lemon.

Ditto for Kym Taylor although he was actually Australian. He didn't even start locally. Is he the worst sixer of all time. Before everyone gets on Gower, Hambour and co i am talking about those players in the 10.

Stupid thing about JoJo is that after we cut him and he was instantly picked up by the Bulls, signed, and started playing in the NBA - go figure!!??

Deak, Jojo played for the bull from 1992-1995.
averaging 11mins per game and 3.6ppg over the 3 seasons.
Then he came to us.

Memory bags.

could've sworn he played a handful of games for the Bulls again after he played for the Sixers. Are you sure they didn't sign him to a 10-day contract or two?

Can't answer that question. All I know is that I had his Basketball Card back in yr8 and that was before he came to the 6ers. He may well have been re-signed to the bulls but I do know that he had another stint playing back in Europe.

Useless information in my bag!

Brian Devincinzi was the Sixers first import(with Bill Jones), he was cut after four games for some hack called Davis.

Brian had one nice baseline dunk(you can see it on the new video) but that was all she wrote other than leaving town with unpaid bills.

Southern Suns had an import guard over here a few years ago now, Greg Somebody who stunk it up.
J Wess or 'No Game' James was ordinary, he had some hops & could do the robot but that was about it.

Brunson was playing in the NBA last year! Or was it two years ago? With Chicago again, I'm sure.

Derek Howell is the Eastern player, and he was one of the funniest guys to play against.
I think Brunson has qualified for NBA pension (10 years in the league). Don't forget he had 4 years at Portland before going to the Knicks. He played a little at Portland but since then he has sat, and now he will get a regular pay cheque from the NBA for the REST OF HIS LIFE!!!

John Colbertson would be the big dude who went to Torrens Valley from Sturt. Had a great inside and outside game - just ask him.
Devincinzi also played for Westies, but I agree certainly didn't cut it in the NBL. By the time the score personel worked out how to pronounce his name, he was sent back to the local league

Greg Somebody for Southern would be Greg Hutchinson. He said once played with Magic in one of his touring teams (or so he told us!!) and word on the street was he once was out on the town and tried passing himself off as MD to some unsuspecting Ladies!! Think he soon left town once that story leaked out...
