On the girls side I expect Country will struggle. The Metro side has some very good players, but no depth and no shooting. Amongst the emergencies, Conti and Newman-Morris are both very good shooters, so is George from Melbourne, who was at the combine but not chosen. They will still be hard to beat but could be a lot better.

The picks for U16 girls Metro are not strong..
"Hoggy" guards.
lacking shooters.
Emergency players dumped.
Players who made the team last year made emergency
Paying lip service I presume, learn and look at the history and names.
One has a sister involved in BV coaching staff in the age group.
Great top age players disregarded.
What a mess.
The metro head coach is employed at the same place as the head coach.
Players at SCC not viewed as one whole team playing out of a satellite location throughout tournament.
Perhaps coaches should only be allowed a one year tenure to avoid favouritism - see previous jamboree favourites and players selected to this team.
A better selection process with a look into the history of players or a panel of selectors that the head coach doesn't have the overruling say.
As one involved in the age group, granted with a child that didn’t try out, but have enough experience and knowledge of this age group, wrongs were done here as well as massive favours and selectors with blinkers on.

Queensland South very strong with players showing great abilities and determination at both nationals 2022 and SCC.

When I first saw the vic m squad, I thought the same thing. Some very biased picks.
Real problem in vic atm. Imo, 3-4 missed out.

Mens Vic Country looks to lack depth
Mens Vic Metro small ball...?
Will be surprised if either take the title.
SA favourites?

What year did you coach at nationals Crabby? What year did you put a team together to go compete in a week long tournament against the best talent in the nation? What is your credibility to speak on the matter? At least Weedy does some kind of research. Maybe the kids you think missed out can't run the offense properly, they don’t make the decisions the coach is looking for, maybe they don’t defend well enough, maybe they don’t fit the coaches playing style. Talent is not enough mate. All the teams are talented there.
What do you say Weedy, did QLD north women have the most talent in 18’s last year and 20’s this year? How did that work out for them?
No two coaches would select the same team. I also don’t think a coach would risk their reputation and career on picking a kid simply because who their parent is. Nationals can make you or brake you as a coach depending on your results. You don’t play favorites with that on the line. Crabby, I hope you’re the first here to apologize to the children that did get the honor and their coaching staff If they are successful. I won’t hold my breath

The proof is in the team selections no skin off my nose if I’m wrong, but please investigate what you think you know versus what has transpired.

Sorry Crabby but 13 years in VJBL doesn't qualify you to speak on state matters. Unless you’ve been involved in the process..lol You should get involved and change it from the inside if you feel this is the case. Be part of the process and stamp out all the corruption. And in your 13 years please share with us what type of politics have you played or favors have you granted? I mean it happens in basketball so surely you’ve done it. Or is it just the state coaches that do this? Tell us how it works and how it benefited you and these corrupt
state coaches. I mean this is all anonymous so you’re protected from scrutiny or prosecution.

Hey Weedy, thanks for posting the above FIBA information, that's useful. Just looking at this line for example though and trying to get my head around it. For the 2024 FIBA U15 Oceania qualifying tournament, I understand the kids need to be 15 on the 1st Jan of the year they are competing, 2024 in this case. Kids who are 15 on the 1st Jan, 2024 are born in 2008 by my calculation, so shouldn't the above read 2008+(2009)?

Looks like district game performances don't seem to be one of the selection criteria.

Hey Sabretooth - looks a pretty strong team to me and I'd say almost all perform in district comp. Not many development players would knock the selected group off their perch this year. Maybe 1 selection based on potential over performance but why not think longer term?!
Think the players to watch post by Weedy Slug missed a couple from SA. One girl in particular has a very bright future on the SA Team.
Bballfan

The latter. Green and Gold potential. Elite.
Might be best pound for pound kid in SA. Never seems to get the wider accolades of some others from more prominent states.

Good passer, everything else needs improvement though. Separated herself more at u14 level than current u16.
Wont be as well rounded as some of the other 09 guards at ajc but certainly an early shout for one of the early u15 n.t pgs in 2024.

I think the core 4 or 5 girls are very good and showed that at ECC, no argument there. The SA bigs at ECC were clear standouts amongst all the teams.
Elliot is a great player and definitely deserves her spot as a bottom ager. I disagree a bit with WS in that at district level anyway she's shown for a long time she can compete, and beat the tope agers. Certainly a good chance at an NT spot in the future.
As for development, well there are dev tournaments and a heap of trainings from the time the squads are selected until the time of NJC. With the actual team it should be the best 10 players (subject to balance). Players shouldn't be given spots because a coach or selector thinks they might be ok down the track. This is particularly pertinent given the not so great ability of SA HP in long term talent spotting.
Re Friday night performances, there's a couple there that could count themselves lucky. With the reserves there are a handful there that should not be there at all, development or not.
I think overall it's a strong team thanks to the big 4 + Elliot. Guards may be a concern given a couple would be lucky to be 5'4" and probably not growing any more. They may struggle to deal with the longer athletic guards.
Elliot is quite tall now however and a couple of the bigs are reasonably capable of playing in a guard spot, notably Turner.
I still think HP needs an overhaul. You dont need to be selecting squads for a July tournament 8 or 9 months prior. Kids have enough load as it is.

The 08/09 sa bigs were standouts at ecc?
A lot of the bigs from other states were missing or are from country teams.

08 bigs at ECC. 09 were at SCC.
May have been a few missing but I'm only going by the ones that I saw at ECC.

Crabby - always the case that the coaches get to shoe-horn one or more of their people in. Also the case that the noisiest parents get their kids pushed forward (I'll leave the club if little Johnny does this or that). Examples this year I’m sure. Basketball is subjective and involves humans and will always be like this. I don’t like it, because it means kids who deserve a crack don’t get it, but I’m not sure there’s ever a perfect model. So long as kids understand that it’s not the be all and end all. And good luck to the kids that make it - they all work and strive hard.
What I don’t like is any public comments by people (adults) who appear to be insiders about the ability or otherwise of named kids. One thing is for sure, if I employed someone making such comments here or publicly elsewhere they wouldn’t be employed or involved for that long. But that’s another issue for other people to have views on and to make their own decisions.

NE, You clearly know very little about the people on this forum, I can tell you for certain, many high performance coaches are contributing here, no code of conduct will stop them from voicing their opinions.
