JackJumpers' ownership and management changes

NBL website has an article talking about the next phase of JackJumpers' existence, which I thought many Hoops readers would find interesting. The key points are:

- "the search for the Tasmania JackJumpers' next ownership will commence in the next three weeks"
- "discussions around renovations which will hopefully see an increased capacity at MyState Bank Arena"
- "the resignation of the club’s CEO Simon Brookhouse....[and] allowing the new owners to make a permanent decision on the club’s new leadership"
- " interest both local and overseas in the club...[but] have not held any serious conversations because that will be done through the advisors we’ve appointed"
- "The club has to be minimum 30 per cent Australian owned, we won’t be selling at 100 per cent overseas"
- "the ideal outcome would be the club being fully owned by Australian buyers, and more importantly, from Tasmania"
- "ready within the next 30 days to start having those conversations"

Apologies if this has been covered in another thread, but I couldn't see one.

Interesting times ahead, any Tasmanian businesses got that sort coin, Spirit of Tasmania? Are the JJs making money, with crowds and sponsorship you would think so. Some of the big Spanish clubs get government funds, would the Tasmanian government be interested in part or all, they chip in a lot more to afl.

The Tasmanian government is the major financial backer of the team outside LK.

Saw the other week but didn't really follow closely, but isn't one of the AFLs demands centre on the government forking over major cash for a new arena? Can Tassie afford for the government to reach in their pockets everytime a sporting body wants cash to bring/keep a team there.
JJs have certainly enjoyed a great honeymoon period thanks to their own hard work. What would happen when AFL comes to town and JJs have some down years? I think they've been able to build a great base, just be a matter of keeping casual fans coming with cost of living and monster of AFL arriving.
With crowd numbers on the rise, you'd think there should be someone uber rich looking for a plaything. And is the 30% locally owned just a Tassie hope, or is that what the league wants for all of its teams?

I dont think there'll be am AFL team in Tasmania for quite some time. The JJs should have at least another 5 years without any competition. As long as Gil and the AFL keep putting unrealistic stadium demands, nothing should happen there, and I feel there's a perception the AFL don't really want to go to Tassie, but are under pressure to at least look interested.

Norths and hawthorn already get government, the afl should fund those side with the millions they got.

The Tas govt has a commercial arrangement with North and Hawthorn based on a return on investment. The AFL funds both those teams but that's separate.

JJ's have been a great story, the little engine that could, if they truly want to contend, they need another elite local, someone better than Jack, and another legit big man, someone who can back up Magnay but also play alongside on bigger line ups...

Cannot believe we're using the phrase "if they truly want to contend" about an expansion team in its second year with a grand final appearance and a deep playoff run already under its belt.

Perspective, people.

Yeah they made the gf and got swept by a team who was missing the MVP of the league!

Perspective indeed!

While it does sound intuitive, Yup is correct. Tassie need to upgrade their roster to be a genuine title contender. They are squeezing lots out of what they have, but it's not quite enough to beat the best teams in the biggest games.

The trick is doing that upgrade without disrupting the chemistry that actually makes them as good as they are. It's easy to say get a PG who can run the team and shoot to improve on Magette's poor shooting game, but can that new guy bring everything else Josh does on and off the floor?

Last year's kings team smashes this season’s championship team . The jack jumpers might not have the biggest budget but they are extremely well run club with a great coach the actually recruit well with there moderate budget and seem to get the best out of there players. I think they should be getting credit where it’s due

No discredit here

They have done well!

If they want a chip they gotta upgrade the roster!

Not certain it smashes this years team but it was stronger.

JJs have done exceptionally well, but yes are missing a few pieces. A defensive rebounding four that can play small ball five would allow McVeigh to play at the three.

If Magnay has some luck health-wise he could be that guy. Tassie have a number of really great role players, but they are probably one local impact player shy of where they need to be.

For the imports Doyle was a great signing who, like Adams last year, might be up for a significant pay rise in a different league. Kelly had his moments and overall was a positive signing - replaceable but if he's on OK money maybe worth bringing back if you nail the other import spots. I think it's fair to say Magette's efficiency on offense is not where it has to be for a squad like this one. I like him a lot and he's sorta of ingrained in the DNA of this team so he might stick around, but unless the third import is a consistent scoring threat this is where they might come undone in year 3.

Elite local in addition to Magnay!

Imagine if this team added Finn Delaney and nails the imports!!!
