NBL television viewership up 46%

As per Larry Kestelman socials NBL23 has had a significant rise in TV viewership.

Thoughts?

hopefully this will translate to higher streaming and broadcast revenues and then we could see a doubling of the salary cap with revenues flowing to the clubs.

Would love to see elite Australians back in this league and not play second division Japanese leagues which is what is happening at the moment.

Does this include international streaming or just local viewers?

Money doesn't flow back to the clubs like NBA. Private ownership means NBL franchises are only worth what you can make from your own home games, so half the teams are worthless.

I would guess it includes everything they can possibly add stay very vague.

Increase is always good news, though.

Streaming on Kayo instead of Twitch certainly would have helped

How would removing a free avenue of watching help viewership?

What we learned there is Kobe uses twitch and thinks the world lives like Kobe does.

That bubble reasoning is what led to the daft over-simplification of the way engaging demographics works.

Never used Twitch.

People who wanted to watch on Kayo have always been able to watch on Kayo. That has never been unavailable.

Removing an additional option will not increase viewership.

Yeah but you didn't say that because you wanted to be condescending instead.

You don’t think having a free alternative doesn’t devalue or affect the broadcast rights? You don’t think there wasn’t greater placement and collateral Kayo platform marketing as a result?

Do you actually think everything is equal in the use of Kayo as a platform?

Removing Twitch would have been a required aspect to getting greater benefits and engagement through Kayo.

Negligible use of Twitch vs comparable substantial benefits of Kayo.

There’s your answer and probably doesn’t require a genius to realise it.

So they added a link on the NBL app when you click on a game, to watch that game on Kayo? Anything else?

I barely noticed, because my method of watching NBL is simply log into Kayo directly and that hasn't changed in years

And yeah that's brilliant news for the NBL.

The league has just gone from strength to strength since LK joined, now they've ridden out the covid era and continued on the merry path. Great to see

Thats good. I can't remember what the situation was like last year, but were there fewer FTA games this year? That could result in more people needing to use the subscription service. Its not necessarily bad if thats the case (people subscribing to watch is a good sign, if thats what they did) but could also be a little cherry picking

ie: Our subscription numbers are up 50% - dont look at our FTA numbers!

From my understanding, all numbers are up, not just subscription. The NBL likes to be very selective with their stats in order to paint everything in the best light but it's all still very encouraging, and you'd imagine the league would be hitting the metrics and expectations of their broadcast partners. If they keep doing this they will get a much better follow up deal which hopefully reflects in on court talent and production value.
