Eltham Dandy Tournament
Great quality tournament at 16 / 18 level. Interested in views on stand-out players people watched.

Edjbt, Its a weird tournament, better off looking at acjbc, scc or ecc for stand out players.

Disagree entirely Weedy Slug. Heard SCC was a real disappointment, particularly for Vic, and having watched some SCC players at the w'end it surprised me. Lots of talent there who are not part of that. Also great to have some NZ, SA, NSW and WA teams come across at the weekend to mix things up.

Disappointment for Vic for boys or girls or both? It was an all-Vic Metro GF for U15 Boys, can't see how that’s disappointing considering Vic Metro was split into 4 teams and QLD and NSW only brought 1 team for each of their state regions.

95+% of the players at edjbt never make state development programs.
Good to watch A grade finals but beyond that...

It is funny to see the comments section on nsw and qld Facebook pages in these recent development tournaments. Lots of them fail to understand that the vic talent was spread over many teams. Not just a best of state single team entry...

Very defensive. Doth protest too much? Discussion amongst coaches on weekend was about how the selections were a bit wonky, but this is all subjective of course and coaches will always back their people.
Anyway, for others out there interested to know thoughts on the tournament and the original question.

Also, Best to watch not just the finals so you do not only see the teams stacked with SDP players as you will never see the individual talent across the board. Self-perpetuating approach, and Best to avoid. Best to watch more games, to avoid just focussing on what is already in front of you.

Who is your child prodigy, what age, what team, what grade?

NEMelb - I heard the opposite and SCC was good and great to be back after COVID - different venue due to building work this year. certainly new game styles for all states. Eltham tourney is a good start to the year - most teams / clubs are just coming back from break and some clubs prefer Easter / mid year tourneys to get their game honed. What you saw last weekend is not what you will see June long weekend.

also comment about Vic teams being spread out more is correct - Navy, White, Orange and even a metro green team this year at SCC. Also Vic country over 2 teams. Remember SCC is a development tourney not a national junior championship - some WA teams just WA this year too - so I don't know if that meant no WA country ?

The SCC U15 Boys had the following teams:
VIC Metro x4
VIC Country x2
SA Metro x2
SA Country x2
QLD South x1
QLD North x1
NSW Metro x1
NSW Country x1
ACT x1
WA x1
Pretty good view of what next year's national champs will look like with everyone there but TAS and NT there. VIC Metro far too strong at that age. Final results;
1. VIC Metro Navy
2. VIC Metro Silver
3. VIC Country Bushrangers
4. QLD South
Different result for ECC with SA Metro too strong for VIC Metro in U16s. VIC may be OK though once they combine their teams back together and maybe add a couple of the outstanding bottom agers.

Geez, this started with a different question but raises many others. Very defensive. Was a lot of chat about this though, so must be something there.

I don't think the responses in this thread has been particularly defensive, though I was interested in what you meant by "Heard SCC was a real disappointment, particularly for Vic". Turns out that you heard that some coaches were disappointed that their kids didn't get selected.
To get back on topic, SCC and ECC are development tournaments and the EDJBT is a friendly tournament, so many of the coaches will be experimenting and trying rotations that they wouldn't during grading. Sounds like Christian Moraes was the standout for the boys in the EDJBT.

Club and state basketball are quite different and SCC/ECC are a bridge between.
Eltham/Dandenong is a great tournament for clubs and can be tougher than Classic in some instances with a higher concentration of VIC teams. A great tune up tournament for the seasons ahead anyway.

Those who have been around the top end junior wise long enough know that the SCC for Vic has been a bit shonky. But it shouldn't be surprising given a lot of the top coaches don’t even bother with the program.
When you have coaches quoted as saying "we can’t take player X,Y,Z because then most of the team is from one club, despite being the best available" and then on the flip side, that kid has to make it because they play for “X”.
When you have situations like that, and a lack of good coaches, it’s not like you’re missing on the best development possible. So parents out there don’t need to stress, your kid ain’t missing out.
Besides, college recruiters don’t really factor state teams in anymore should that be the path they wish to take.

With recruiting, it's true, they hardly scout at ajcs anymore.
most of the sapphires have been offered scholarships already, not one of those on the fringe of the n.t has had an offer that I know of.

The thing I found interesting about the Eltham tournament this year was the completed removal of anything to do with the word "Australia" several venues had removed entirely the Australian flag, which I found completely unacceptable

Are all girls in the junior national teams getting D1 offers?
What about boys, is it a mix of D1 and D2 offers if they have made national teams as a junior?
Yep
Last year
There has been multiple offers outside the national team - Sophie Burrows to Syracuse, Dyani Adenev to Portland and Holly Griffiths to Xavier to name a few examples.

If colleges don't scout the AJC’s, how could they have interest/offers etc as none are at the COE yet. The only other avenue would be BA Pathways thing or through their own network

Selection in State / National teams and programs is very important for offers - that is why selection is critical for young kids. Are selectors for State programmes / teams listed? Think they should be for transparency and accountability.
