According to this Wiki page, the Aussie Boys U18 Basketball Team

failed to qualify for FIBA's U19 World Cup?

Is that correct?

What happened?

This was from an article from the pick n roll interviewing Alex Toohey:

The biggest stage for Toohey this year will probably be the FIBA Under-19 World Championships, held in Hungary from June to July. He still has to overcome the hurdle of getting selected, but as Australia's top forward prospect he is a short priced favourite to make that roster. Make sure you tune in to this tournament, as it has provided a platform for Aussie NBA prospects in the past, including Danté Exum and Andrew Bogut. And when the 2022-23 NCAA Division I kicks off, Gonzaga will be a must-watch team for Aussie hoops fans.

"I think that would be really cool, if we could go to that, and then obviously competing at that level would be awesome," Toohey said, regarding the 2023 FIBA Under-19 World Cup

Both Australia and New Zealand, two of the region's strongest basketball nations, pulled out of the FIBA Under 18 Asia Championship, as it was being held in Iran.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade very plainly describes why sending a team to Iran would be a risky proposition at the time: Listed as a Level 4 'Do Not Travel’ destination, Smarttraveller.gov.au notes the threat of arbitrary detention or arrest as high, not to mention a laundry list of concerns regarding safety hazards, civil unrest, crime and terrorism. Quite simply, Basketball Australia has made the only reasonable decision given the situation at hand.

Per usual qualification rules, the top four nations from the Asia Championship go through to play in the World Cup the following year. In this scenario, it would mean that Australia would miss the Under 19 FIBA World Cup for the first time in the event’s history.

FIBA has now placed Australia's U17 & U19 Boys ranking in peril.

Lithuania failed to qualify out of Europe for the 2023 FIBA U19

Boys World Cup. They would have taken your number four ranking.

Serbia now has an opportunity to pass Lithuania AND Australia if

they can advance far enough in the 2023 FIBA U19 Boys World Cup.

If Australia drops to fifth in the FIBA Boys Rankings, this will

SERIOUSLY impact Australia's U17 Boys 2024 FIBA U17 Boys World Cup

campaign. Australia will drop to pot two or even pot three. That

means facing a Team USA, France, Lithuania, Serbia, or Spain in

the round of 16 or the qtrs. FIBA just gave it to the Aussies with-

out ANY lubrication.

4. Australia AUS 683.6 +4
5. Lithuania LTU 681.4 +2
6. Serbia SRB 663.8 0
7. Canada CAN 653.3 -3
8. Turkey TUR 649.6 -3

U19 Emus Camp mid March as they head towards a Euro Tour around July. Unfortunately no World Cup for this group which is a shame. Next Emus campaign begins in October when the team heads to Papua New Guinea for the Oceania Championships as part of WC qualification.
