A big game regarding the top six, Sixers win they can open up a gap, cats need it to keep close to final.
Which cats turn up, if the last start cats turn up they can win this, if not sixers will. Who knows, I'll guess cats by 6.

Cotton still the best player in the nbl
Cats starting to look much better
Rillie understanding his team better, Blanchfield 10 minutes
Franks minus 13
Drimic got player smarter
Sixers either need a big or play Mccaron at three and get point guard.
Rillie probably won the coaching battle
Very good game, refs certainly even handed.

The cats could be a pretty good team if they could only rebound.

Getting out hustled by the opposition guard for 13 boards says it all.

Still heaps of room for improvement and if a few of the passengers find some form they'd be very dangerous come finals.

Bruton probably should use his bench more, specially if they are playing well anyway. Have starters playing with more energy in the last minutes. Sotto in particular gave the offense momentum in the first quarter. Made several assists and ran the floor to finish with a lay up. Then played very little.

7 things we confirmed tonight;

1: CJ can't coach.
2. Cotton is still the best player in the league.
3. 36ers need that 3rd import yesterday.
4. Drmic will give up as many points as he generates.
5. 36ers have no go to player.
6. 36ers have no offensive structure.
7. 36ers have no defensive structure.

So how long would it take to get import here, playing and fitting in. Would take a special sort like Childress who did it. Would take a month before they get up to speed and even then what would their role be.

Did they cut the ribbon to the Daniel Johnson memorial toilets tonight? Brett Maher got a court and Davis his bust, what better tribute to the most frustrating player at the club than to say I'm going to drop a DJ in his office.

You might want to go back and watch the game. Sotto was a massive defensive liability every time he was on. That is why they stopped giving him minutes

Sotto was plus 5 when he was on the floor, the only Sixers player in the plus. His defence can't have been bad as the team went up on the score board when he was on. I’ve been critical of him but probably deserved more time today.

Sotto's defence can be iffy but the same goes for Franks and Johnson and they both disappeared in the final quarter. He deserved a few more minutes tonight especially since he brought some some energy and playmaking today.

DJ on defence, the only Iffy part is Iffy even plays it. Frank's is the same, what they do on the defensive end of the floor cant even be called defence. They either lack a fundamental understanding of the game and how defence works or they just can't be bothered trying. Trading wide open layups for shit threes will be a very tough way to win games.

The offence is just dribble hand off to dribble hand off around the 3 point line until someone shoots a shit 3. McCarron avoids shooting as well as DJ avoids defence so tough to win playing 4 on 5 on offence and 4 on 5 on defence. Move McCarron to the 4 if he wants to play in the post. He could post up point guards but never really does.
Last time we exploited cotton by posting up Cleveland or McCarron and now we don't bother doing it again. It's a frustrating team to watch.

Teams playing Sotto salivate when they see him on court. Continue to put him in pick and rolls. His d has improved but struggles to not commit dumb fouls.
Those continuing to hate on Mac make me laugh, gets 13 rebounds now you suggesting he play 4. He had 6 assists last night would have had more if players made their shots, has had 20 plus in last 3 games. Chipped in with 20 points as well but hey the haters going to hate.

Not hating on McCarron at all just need a point guard who can be a threat from outside the paint, love the hustle! But you can't pass up wide open shots for a contested 3 from Franks. Several times he dribbled into the space and we settled for rubbish passing a wide open 3 to the guy in the 3rd row. Just shoot those shots.

I think CJ has shown he shouldn't be back. Can argue last year was difficult taking over at last minute, but this year hasn't shown he is capable of out coaching anyone.
Was great to take frustrations out on JVG, he was a total nightmare and we're still dealing with his aftermath.
MM is good, not great as his bank account is showing. Jack of all trades, master of none. Can rebound from the pg spot but that's like having a chicken that can swim, interesting but doesn't really help.
Can't have DJ and Frank's together on defence. Can accept Sottos struggling at times because he's learning and it's hard for a guy that size to get it immediately. But he does seem to try unlike those other two.
Dollars have certainly been spent, but like a fat kid in a Lollie shop. There may have been red flags on Randall, but at least there should have been a plan B if he was a true cancer. But the club has sat on its hands regarding new import, too late now except to bring in a token replacement to try and keep fans excited for next year. And if they're holding out because a player is expensive, he'd better be worth it. And if I see CJ smiling saying they're looking and weighing up players to come in, the remote will go flying at the screen.

"too late now except to bring in a token replacement to try and keep fans excited for next year."

Are some Adelaide fans really so traumatised that being 0.5 games out of a post-season berth midway through the year - having already beaten the teams in 1st and 4th and narrowly losing to 2nd and 3rd (in OT) - is the time to start keeping fans excited for the next year?

I'm stunned that Adelaide supporters don’t grasp the fact that the only way you can attract players to Adelaide is paying big bucks. You got MM because you outbid others that were after his services. His role in Melbourne was going to be diminished cause they had an NBA player coming to booster the ranks.
Wishful and fanciful thinking that there other Australian/naturalized players that you can just name, would be willing to move to Adelaide shows your lack of understanding of the real world.
Re imports, with the way they have been treated in the last few years I image agents would be advising their players to avoid Adelaide . It’s starting to be a place to end your career instead of a spring board for better things.

"You might want to go back and watch the game. Sotto was a massive defensive liability every time he was on. That is why they stopped giving him minutes"

Perth scored 23 points at 75% in Sotto's eight minutes, which is indeed ridiculously high, but Adelaide scored 27 points at 67%. Had Sotto played the whole game, at that rate Adelaide would have won 135-115!

As previously said, Sotto was the only player in the plus for Sixers, he should have got more time. Mccaron was minus 8, Franks minus 13. Sotto plus 5. Mccaron does not play like a point guard, yes United won a championship with him in gun team with Illi the back up.

McCarron obviously plays like a PG, he's all about setting the team up, but he needs help. There aren't many, if any, point guards in the league who can be effective without a decent back-up.

Adelaide can still turn it around, but there is just too many patterns emerging that are the concern.

The Franks & DJ pairing is not just bad defensively, it also makes it awkward offensively & DJ can't really delegate to a lesser but equally effective role because he is not that type of big, plus still has claim to be a focus on offense.

Again, there seems to have been a bit of complacency from the minor improvement post-Randall, and I still don't know why Adelaide and people in general have talked like they might not need a second import or have the luxury of time to find the best fit, when they are now 6/7 & likely 6/8 after tomorrow.

And honestly, I think the recruitment has been a bit overhyped overall...

Dunkman/Anonymightymouse +/- is a stupid stat for someone on limited minutes. I could play 1 minute stand in the corner and not touch the ball whilst my team mates score 10 points making me +10. After the game I am a player with the best +/- so by your definition I am the best player and deserved more minutes which isn't true because I didn't even contribute. Sotto was a massive defensive liability when he was on, it just so happened his team mates were efficient during that time.

"Those continuing to hate on Mac make me laugh, gets 13 rebounds now you suggesting he play 4. He had 6 assists last night would have had more if players made their shots, has had 20 plus in last 3 games. Chipped in with 20 points as well but hey the haters going to hate."

and what did he do in the 4th quarter? One time he had the opportunity to attack the ring or shoot the open 3 instead he shit himself and threw the ball out of bounds. And this is the problem that when it matters he is absent and the team plays 4 on 5 in offense. His defense throughout was rather poor also.

There are 15 games left.

Vickerman suggested 14 wins is needed for the playoffs.

But for a team that is low on points % we'd likely need 15.

Thats 9 from the next 15 games which is a pretty tall order.

When is Ian Clark arriving? Its not looking promising unless the guys do a Boston 'Energy is about to shift moment'.

What is it with the Sixers that give crap players breakout games against us? First Manek now Thomas.

That out of bounds 'play' was awful but he saw Dech open and himself shooting like 20% from 3. Dech was not watching.

To be fair without 4K McCarron, we would have been in a worse position, his O boards lead to at least 8 SCP from memory.

Opposition bigs have always torched us, LB and will continue to do until DJ's gone.

One big concern is McCarron scored 20 knowing Cavs scouts were in the building to watch Travers so will likely go back to his usual 6-7 ppg now.

Someone said it's hard for McCarron to be effective without a proper PG, he was even worse last season when he did have a back up PG in Dufelmeier. Duf performed adequately enough when he got minutes last season but clearly CJ didn't rate him as he seemed to spend most of the season in the doghouse.

Even if we didn't bring Duf back I thought it was a pretty big mistake not to sign a back up PG this season and was under the impression DJ being in the last year of his contract we would've told him with Franks coming in to play as a traditional centre and just concentrate on rebounding and playing some semblance of defence if he wants to be back next season, clearly that conversation never happened.

One thing that stands out like dogs balls this season is we're a much better team on the road than at home for whatever reason so we should still be in with a good chance tomorrow against SEM but if we drop that game too and if no third import imminent it might be time to send CJ packing.

1.5 seasons in now and CJ still hasn't shown an ability to coach especially in game situations so perhaps Pearlman or Downer could get more out of this group in an attempt to salvage the season.

@ Sixers fan.

Unless the defensive team gives you the ball back five times in a row while you stand in the corner doing jack as you say, and your side goes into the plus then you can tell me it's useless.
Sotto had to play defence in his minutes, and like no one else fro Sixers he was in the plus. You understand both sides get the ball.
While I do agree it’s no the end all and be all of stats, it’s still a good indication. Sotto should have played more.

I would have been happy if they poached Goorj this season.

I don't know what CJ's contract is in terms of length but if there are no playoffs this year, its time for a new direction.

But the new coach has to either know how to use DJ and hide his deficiencies or axe him totally.

Going by all the acolades last night you'd think he is the heart and soul of this club.

Goorj has always come with a big price tag not just his own pay but the program he likes to install which doesn't necessarily mean he's out of our price range but I dare say CJ both missing out on the Bullets HC job and losing his ass. coach job with them would've come at a fraction of the price.

I don't know what CJ's contract is in terms of length but if there are no playoffs this year, its time for a new direction.

CJ signed a 3 year deal with us the last year is likely a team option so I would imagine he would probably be replaced at the end of the season.

Even if that final year isn't a team option he would probably be moved on anyway as the club was willing to eat both the last guaranteed year of Conner Henry's contract and the last two years of Joey's contract. We were paying three HC's last season lol

Sixers should've got a defensive 4/5 and a scoring wing instead of franks and Cleveland.

Both are good players but don’t fit with McCarron and DJ.

A Hopson/Patterson type player and a Akil Mitchell type player would’ve fit better
