I wonder if Darebin Refs did there background on him - or did they just believe him when he would talk of reffing games in the SEC??

Serial fraudster.

I can understand a referees association being conned, but big companies like Myer and Rivers?

How did the TAFE hire him. If it was a permanent part time role, referee checks are manadatory. It may have been casual, but really?
