Boomers-Iran
Impressive defensive adjustments to start the 4th, and DJ absolutely cooking now.

Poor 3/4 but upped the D when asked and Vasiljevic started to catch fire.
Cant see Norton or Brandt being used much longer for the n.t.
Lual Acuil now with the South Sudan n.t but we still have
Landale, Baynes, Reath, Humphries, Magnay, Froling, Hunter
Wonder if matjhiang also goes to South Sudan.

JLA is the first big loss for the Boomers program, as he is the only guy on the Sudanese team that had a legitimate shot at making a World Cup or Olympic line up.
But moving forward, one has to worry about the emergence of South Sudan and what it will mean for the Boomers, given that so many of our better upcoming stars have a Sudanese background.
As for our big man stocks, it is a bit thin
I don't want to see Sam Frolling, Jordan Hunter or Will Magnay suggested for any meaningful international tournaments
And then outside of that our best prospects are Jock Landale and an aging Aron Baynes with a big question mark on his head.

Is there a reason why Goorjian isn't coaching the team during the WC qualifiers?

Magnay's game is very transferable to the international game. Defends on-balls well, protects the rim, rebounds, sets picks and rolls to the hoop with athleticism. It's just a question of whether he can stay fit for long enough.

Same reason guys like Patty mills aren't.
Not important enough and they’ll get through fine without them.

Goorjian is with the Bay Area Dragons of the East Asian Super League right now preparing for the season.

@ME if JLA is now qualified with South Sudan as an international player, how does it work if he returns to the NBL? Does he then play as an import or is the dual passport sufficient?

A lot of players have passports elsewhere.
Dech plays for South Sudan too, makes zero difference to the nbl because they're still Australian

What will happen next window when we play iran?, if BA stopped aus from attending u18 asia champs in Iran based on security, how will the boomers be aloud to play there?
Forfeiting of games results in disqualification, just like Korea experienced when the team caught covid.
Kazakhstan is the other game in that early November window.

Next window will be very interesting, 1 month into nbl season so no nbl contracted players will be available to play. 2 losses and we are in danger, tied with China, only 1 ahead of Iran and Kazakhstan. the following February window has only Bahrain and kazakistan in which again possibly no nbl contracted players a week after the season ends. Might be up to the college kids, Coe and nbl DPs

At the end of the day, there's only 12 Boomer singlets at anyone time. If NBL players get more international exposure by playing for the likes of South Sudan hopefully it will lift their game and therefore the quality of the league overall. In the Longrun this will be better for the boomers program if the domestic competition continues to improve.
