Interesting view of the NBL from afar

Long article on the NBL by someone who, purely going by his name, might be Lithuanian?

Anyway, might be worth a read for some - https://basketnews.com/news-175331-nbl-an-in-depth-look-at-the-mysterious-australian-basketball-league.html

Most detailed description I've seen of the NBL salary cap mechanism. The use of average salary per game multiplied by number of games played was something I'd not heard about previously.

Similarly for their description of the Next Stars program. Also an interesting analysis of the path that program's followed, to date.

A good read - thanks for posting the link.

That was a good and interesting read.

Naive of me, but I was unaware the cap system was so convoluted.

I question this article's sources, TBH.

The season starts in December and typically ends in May.
NBL Blitz is a special pre-season tournament for all 10 NBL teams with a totally different format than basketball fans are usually accustomed to.

It is run in three different Australian states - Tasmania, Victoria, and New South Wales - during the month of November each year.
These are just the way things happened this year. No other Blitz has been a multi-state affair, to my knowledge, and no other NBL season has ever commenced in December. Even 98/99, squashed in after an abbreviated 1998 winter season, commenced in October.

Looks like a more in depth analysis of the NBL than we manage to get locally.

The financial rules really are convoluted, but I believe necessary, to keep franchises afloat.
