Big V Round 4

Any predictions? A fair look at most teams now about a month in by the weekend.

SCM- Blackburn over Chelsea (worst team in comp by far)
McKinnon over WP by 20+
Wyndham over Camberwell by 20+
Sunbury over Wyndham (two best teams in comp, game of the week, Sunbury at home and Wyndham on double header)
WP over Hume (WP imports will start to win some games)

SCW- bulleen over Chelsea (game of the week, bulleen too strong on the glass and have 7 players averaging between 8-13 points.)
Wyndham over Sunbury
SP over Pakenham
McKinnon over Hume by 20+
Chelsea over Sunbury by 20+

Don't follow or know enough about D1/D2

Standerfer is getting paid import dollars at Chelsea, but is playing at low D2 levels. 9 PPG at 25% should not be getting dollars. It's a shame the club can't see through him. May as well play the kids and drop down a division. That's the way to build a successful program for the long term.

Club standerfer is stuffed,he has drained it dry.need at least 3/4 top players IMMEDIATELY but I think the season is already gone.be lucky to get a team in division 2 next year.

The focus on Corey is an good topic to talk about.
At what point should pressure come on coaches/star players into a poor season?
three rounds is too early. The money some of the associations waste on big v they need to hold people to account.
Who is under pressure in big V?
Cm it's obviously Chelsea
CW it's obviously STH Pen
Div 1 m coburg
No one as yet in Div 1 w.

I wonder what changes they can make to turn round the seasons? Or is it done.
Chelsea has fallen so far. after winning Div 1 in 2019 they have never had a season above 500. Whatever happened internally has not worked.
SP has gone from 2018 finalists to relegation. With Hillier gone that is a big change but it's been enough time to build to be at least competitive. Where is young talent? And who is responsible?
I wonder if the two associations have similar themes?

Let's not completely disrespect what Corey has done for their BigV program, he has delivered at an unbelievably high level for a long period of time. I think the real issue stems from the fact that Chelsea do not have juniors that are good enough to ever play Championship level basketball so why bother having a Championship level program? They're clearly struggling to keep high level recruits coming in.

The same could be said for Western Port.

I do believe that if you go back 5/6/7 years chelsea did have quality people coming up through the system.it has only been in recent years, since it was renamed corey's Basketball club that it has become a bastard case

talk about Chelsea struggling is unfair on Corey. Chelsea has both teams in championship
And you mention WP. Struggling in mens, women in Div 1
Throw in Mornington Div 2 for both seniors
And SP struggling in championship women and men in Div 1.

It's too many teams for too few people. How many of those teams are local products? Time for merger.
Juniors result reflect the need to merge.

The only reason Chelsea men are in Championship is cause they won D1 the year before Covid. Then Corey knifes Shanahan cause he didn't like being coached, Riggs, Frost and Brasser leave, and now the team would struggle in D2. Their demise is a direct result of the DOC not spending his paid time developing juniors. Highest team in VJL3 says it all. Both YL teams get smashed by 50 every week. The junior program has gone backwards in the 6 years he has been DOC. Time for change.

Fox87, merger wont ever happen, but if it did, Chelsea wouldn't be included with Mornington, SP & WP. Different councils for starters for stadium building, renovations etc. Plus the distances between all of them. Sorrento to Aspendale (75kms, 1 hour by car).

Not to mention there's a big old Club in between all that in Frankston.

It'd be more like Mornington/SP/WP, and then Chelsea absorbed by Frankston.

Not that any of it will happen. In the near future anyway.

I agree with you Monix.
Chelsea aside the other three need to merge.
There has been an exodus from clubs to Frankston, Knox, Sandringham and casey and others.
They can't keep top end talent.
If Mornington WP and SP were smart they would at least merge VJBL. Create teams capable of playing VC.
What will be interesting is if two of them proceed then the third will be frozen out and will basically be resigned to a team of low grade VJBL. Who jumps first?
Wasn't there a peninsula basketball working group looking into this with website and all?

Pud,you make a lot of commonsense, but,I must correct you on one thing.Riggs was on corey's Side, getting a broom through the club, but did his ACL in a practice match last year and honest played since.his old man was Vice President at the time and also, not been since.
Talk about a few people stuffing up a good family club.

Red n Blue. Riggs and his old man left because Corey knifed Shanahan. You can't have an import with so much power in a club. He is getting a full time wage for pretty much just playing and sending a few emails. So many junior families have gone to other clubs because of the lack of development of the rep program, which is the fault of the DOC, who has the same name as Corey.

Well,if that is the case the doors should be permanently closed at the nest.previous management bent over backwards for that UNIT.made sure of keeping him there by making him the DOC,then give him a new car to drive, and low and behold, knived them all.

It's curtains for a club that use to be a great club.such a shame

What does that mean jack Rabbit?

If you do a quick analysis the junior development at Chelsea is not good. Most 1st teams are in divisions below where they were ranked.
U12 it's a bit harsh to judge but males and females down 30 spots
U14 dropped 30 places for males and 40 places for females
U16 males and females are about same as grading
U18 males dropped 20

People may defend by saying covid etc but clubs ran online programs really well.
To defend Corey the lack of development is not him alone. GM other coaches. What were they doing?

Have to wonder why a club like this is needed so close to Frankston?

It's that time of year again.

Yearly schedule of bashing Corey and Chelsea along with the "every club on Penisula needs to merge" propaganda.

If people at these clubs are happy, enjoying what they're doing and actively participating why not celebrate that.

If you've left a club then focus on making where you ate and enjoying it.

On what basis can you say Chelsea are on the way on.their youth league sides are totally NOT COMPETITIVE,the men's team are NOT COMPETITIVE.the only team doing o.k. Is the women’s team and for a men’s club that would be sitting well in their gut.

Red 'n' blue, maybe some facts would explain it?
Both Chelsea YL teams are extremely young, especially as YLW who have a lot of U16s playing, and learning to play against old players. Development takes time and they are giving their own kids time unlike others who go out recruiting

Plus the previous Chelsea YLWs coach took most of those players to SP.
How are they going?
Half have quit, coach got sacked mid season and rest are Core of SP SCW who lost to Chelsea by 30+.

I see the Chelsea men put in a much improved performance.
It would seem if SP took Chelsea players it's been a lose lose.
All that aside clubs in big V are spending huge amounts of money drained from junior programs. They need to be held accountable if they don't perform.

The men only had 7 against K. Great effort to lose by 1. Then only 6 on Sunday.
It would seem they too are struggling with covid and/or injuries.

This always seems to turn into a spat. Clearly some bad blood that I think everyone needs to move on from. As an outsider, it also appears that Corey has served the club well so there is no need to throw so much hate towards him.

In other basketball related news - interesting to see Wyndham get over the top of Sunbury comfortably. It did appear as though Sunbury were missing their coach though but it was still a convincing display for what I expect to be a top of the table clash.

Camberwell looked undermanned on Saturday. Corey didn't play for Chelsea on Sunday. Blackburn looked like they have improved since the opening couple of rounds. Western Port lost Corletto?
