Yeah, they've had our measure so far this season.
Big road trip for Perth to decide their position in the top 4.

Heal went from future starting opals pg under Seebohm to will she even make the reserves for the opals under Shane this year and beyond?

Odd starting 5 by the Flames I thought. Helped us get off to a good start.
Decent amount of rest for the starters in game 1 of 3, though I'd say Petrik would have been aiming for more once up 19 at the half.
Very nice game from Sami.

The league announced today that the Perth v Bendigo game will not be rescheduled and will result in a 'no result'. If neither team was in the finals, fair. But disappointing that a finals bound team plays one less game - whether or not % is used in the table.

Man ... what happened to the Caps team that came over and took down the Lynx on our home court?

This loss now leaves the #1 spot wide open

4point 3rd quarter where they shot 1/19 I think from the field. They did get the standard freebie calls after a Tech, helped stop the Lightning's run but in the end shooting 46% vs 25% from the field was the difference.

Caps couldn't get going.
Refs appeared to not like Whittle all that much.

Billings gone home, injured. Will miss her, It was love at first sight!
What a sight!!
Her look a like was WNBL best 6th player, last season, but no good this season.
Step up a bit Aokuso, will ya...

Can someone please confirm for me what the Lynx need to do to seal up top spot after the caps loss last night? Also should they finish top are they then expected to fly back from Townsville on Sunday and play on Wednesday night in the opening final?

I'm sure every team would have loved a two week break to rest and allow players to recover from injury while minimising games missed. A 3day turnaround is not uncommon with midweek games.

Well played, Fire. That was tough.
Petrik wanted max 130 starter minutes and ended up with 157. Ouch.
We're going to limp into the semis next week thanks to this cruel schedule :/

ABC TV in SA are not doing MEL v UCC game, Saturday.
They are doing the SA election.
We had to go and vote, today.
Anyways, got it, here on Kayo.
MEL missed a few shots, not many..
Tiffany Mitchell looks a million dollars..

No idea why they were pressing up five with a minute to go, which in isolation is a weird tactic but in the context of this schedule is just bizarre.

I wonder whether the Lynx might be better of finishing fourth and running their bench a lot over the last round, or finishing on top and having run the starters ragged.

There's nothing bizarre to me about wanting to finish top of the ladder.

Sounds like the WNBL has had some mercy on the Lynx and will give them the Thursday slot now regardless of whether they finish #1 or #2.

Trying to win isn't bizarre, no, although it may not be optimal.

Pressing while up five with a minute to go, however, is. Why speed the game up at that point? Clock works to your advantage.

I was good with it. The press was the clear difference between winning & losing that game IMO.
Given what was at stake combined with the randomness of Townsville reffing interpretations I don't blame Petrik for taking no chances in securing the win.

I'd like to see Gandini given more opportunity today if she holds her own as well as she did last game. That's a lot of good energy not being utilised while our starters are running close to empty.

Relying on pressuring up the floor and leaving her on the bench is particularly odd, given that's her strength. Seemed like she was on a pretty short leash the other night.

Of course, running the starters into the ground and failing to finish on top is the worst of both worlds.

well no one could have predicted that as the end to the season. Melbourne taking top, Semi against 4th placed Adelaide.

Meanwhile Canberra and Perth will face off in the other semi after starting the weekend battling for 1st.

Finally managed to watch the game and I don't know where the no drive accusation comes from. It is pretty obvious that the Lynx are running on fumes atm and it is affecting pretty much everything they do.
On that subject it shits me no end that just like in 2018, the league has thrown us under the bus with the schedule leading into the playoffs. 7 games in 15 days across the country and then it's the semis 4 days later. Why start the playoffs mid-week rather than next weekend? The league is shooting itself in the foot by not putting its best product on the floor.

As for drive, Mabrey's me-first attitude rubs me the wrong way but I've had no issues with anyone else out there. They fought hard I thought.
Lots of credit to the Fire - Steph Reid in particular, but all 6 main players dug in hard - for giving it everything in that game. A very well deserved win.
It's a shame how badly their season was damaged by injuries, but there were some shiny silver linings to come out of it thanks to Reid & Woods.

"Mabrey's me-first attitude rubs me the wrong way"

Apart from Cambage, I'm struggling to think of a player, ever, that I've disliked more than Mabrey.

Anna Crosswhite, Angela Marino, Keely Froling, Michelle Cosier... mmm, nope, Mabrey is definitely #2.

Is there a reason Emma Clarke only managed the same 43 seconds as the DPs in the second Townsville game?

Because atm, she isn't very good.
Not even sure she’ll make 22/23 squad if atwell signs

If she was consistently playing DP minutes I'd buy that, but she's been in the 5-10 range most of the year. And that's without getting into the load management issue.

Am I supposed to know who Atwell is?

Townsville game one: Clarke 3:58, Gandini 1:37
Townsville game two: Clarke 0:43, Gandini 17:52

That's a pretty dramatic shift in 48 hours against the same team. Sharp took a bunch of Scherf's minutes as well by the look of it, just going smaller across the board?

Do the box scores not have a "fouls" column, or am I going blind?

You should know atwell if you have any interest in wa basketball or the wnbl.

Perth might be...

Perth - R.Petrik
+
Contracted players (potentially 12)
Import PG*
5'8 E.Gandini
5’9 T.Burrows
5’10 S.Whitcomb
5’11 A.Ciabattoni
Import G/F*
6’1 E.Clarke
6’1 A.Sharp
6’2 D.Garbin
6’2 A.Isenbarger
6’3 M.Allen
6’5 L.Scherf
+
Amateur/Development players
2 young local guards
6’3 M.Hoycard

*unknown

Roster
Import-Burrows-Gandini
Whitcomb-Ciabittoni
Import-Sharp-Clarke
Garbin-Isenbarger
Scherf-Allen

You could move on ciabbitoni, Clarke, isenbarger and also not bring Allen back once again.
Plenty of better options available next season.

I always use the ones linked from the livestats page so I hadn't noticed that before.

Clarke seems a bit down on confidence lately. A pity, because she was contributing against some pretty good opponents back when we were playing our best basketball earlier in the season.

I don't usually follow the WNBL, I just got sucked into watching the Lynx games after the border opening got canceled and they were stranded over east. I've watched Lynx playoff games in the past, but that's about it.

So no, I have no idea who Atwell is.

Yet they include Fouls On? LOL. What the?
Yeah, I was wondering if I had them mixed up and Fouls On was what I was looking for but no, Whitcomb had 7 so it's definitely what I initially thought it was.

For your information Koberulz, Amy Atwell is from Willeton who represented WA in U16,U18 & U20 and was signed up by Craig Mansfield to play SBL for Lakeside in 2016 before she was going to go to the Uni of Hawaii. Unfortunately she did an ACL early in 2016 which set her back for nearly a couple of years and she is graduating this year. In 2021-22 she played as a starter for 30 games for 17.8 pts average with a FG & 3PT averages of 44% & 38%.

Quick stats comparison of Mabrey's season pre- and post-injury is pretty telling

22.1 -> 13.8 points
41.8 -> 30.7 FG%
5.3 -> 3.0 rebounds
4.3 -> 1.4 assists
30 -> 23 minutes

Perth really need her to recapture her early season form but it's a big ask with no time to rest and barely even time to train.
