What makes a good coach?

Scott Roth is over-achieving with an ordinary squad. Adam Forde sometimes does.
James Duncan seems quite calm and intelligent, but is criticising his players, who on paper should probably be higher on the ladder than they are.
Trevor Gleeson was loud but got his teams to finals year after year, even when on paper they shouldn't have.
Dean Vickerman gets his stacked teams to finals most years.
CJ is just starting out, and fans aren’t happy that his reasonable squad isn’t doing well enough.
Perth fans don’t think much of Morrison but their team is up near the top. Similarly with Phoenix.
Chase Buford has a stacked squad but ...

Etc etc.

So what makes a GOOD coach? What are you judging them on? Wins? Player development? Competitiveness and effort? Entertainment value? X’s and O’s In timeouts?

And would Euro coaches be better for Australian conditions than NBA ones?

Your thoughts?

Competitiveness effort tactics and team unity are things a good coach can instill to get the best out of the team. Supporters appreciate it when their team is playing to their ability but it may not necessarily translate into enough wins because of an average roster.
