"This will result in the game being awarded to the UC Capitals and the score shall be 20-0, as per FIBA rules.

Those who have purchased tickets to the game will be contacted by UC Capitals shortly.

The Flyers were impacted by their three Opals players being bumped from a flight and therefore delayed on their return from the FIBA Women's World Cup qualifiers in Serbia, meaning they would return less than 24-hours before the proposed game. Further to that, they have an additional three athletes with injury or illness.

Given the unique circumstances, the WNBL worked closely with the Capitals and Flyers administrators yesterday to determine whether a rescheduled game would be possible, however after many considerations, it was determined it was not possible, and the game would need to go ahead.

While a team of seven (7) athletes could have participated, in consultation with the Coach and Captain, and working through a range of considerations, the Flyers have opted to forfeit the game. They remain committed to a fully fit and available team for their next match, scheduled for this Saturday 19 February, at Dandenong Stadium against the Adelaide Lightning.

Per the league rules, forfeiture will result in a fine and may bring further disciplinary action by WNBL League Management under the WNBL Licence Agreement."

This is a disgrace for a professional league to permit a team to forfeit.

The 7 fit athletes have had 12 days off since last game!

Elevate a development player, Get the AIS athletes to fill in, NBL1 training is in full swing.

They were going to get pumped again anyway.

If they don't want to play then you can't force them

I'm pretty sure this is the first 20-0 walkover in NBL/WNBL history.

Interesting that Southside suited up 12 players last night. Their Three opals returned and two others recovered since Thursday???

Both Southside and Townsville looked down and out in their games last night. An absolute drubbing by the Caps. Noticed that O'Hea wasn't even at the Southside game, no mention of her at all. Something definitely going on there.

She's asked for a mental break I believe.
Her absence should not guarantee her an opals spot Imo.

Wallace definitely should be getting more minutes.

Hope O'Hea is OK.

I used to follow O'Hea on Instagram, started to wonder whether something was up/whether she's ok when she started deactivating her account every couple of days. Then she put it back up with almost all the posts deleted. Then she pulled out of Serbia and even though I don't know her personally, really started to worry about her wellbeing. Even more so seeing she wasn't at the game on the weekend.
