NBL1 Central’s Men Power Rankings
Power rankings and thoughts on this upcoming season, with the information that's public with rumoured signings re. Player signings/imports
Bottom feeders:
10: Central’s. while the BJ - Tobias & Demetrius looks good on paper, they are incredibly up and down and will have to work with a whole new roster. Humphries and Lual is a massive hole to fill. The league competitiveness has sky rocketed and central’s sadly haven’t gotten any better. Can Tracy York develop some young talent to keep them competitive?
9: Southern. Incoming & improving with Ricardo Martin, Olbrich, looking at an import guard isn’t going to cover the losses of Koop, Nick Wurm and DPOY Coleman. Will Olbrich live up to the hype?
8: North Adelaide. The mighty Rockets have seemingly cleaned house. From having a star studded team last year there’s no rumours of any big signings and many players have been given the flick. You can never count out Dean to open up the check book & sign some major players. Which high profile NBL player will Dean manage to convince join the rockets?
7: Eastern: After a winless season the Mav’s have some positive early signs. The signings of Wallacott Medalist Kirksey, Koop Maccalopp & rumours of a James Legan return makes them deeper and gives them the ability to score which they haven’t had in recent times. Still there Australian talent is underwhelming. Which local could step up to fill the void?
6: South Adelaide: lost Mudronja & Hulland, their core remains the same built around Starling. An import guard next to John’s to run the show should be a decent backcourt. New coaching staff which should be an instant improvement over the disastrous Jamie Petty. South had a turbulent season last year and vastly underachieved. Should be around the mark. Is Hoppo a 6 man of the year candidate?
5: West: Signing of Nate Shepard and the pending signing of Nik Desantis will boost their roster tremendously. Would be looking at an import big, could be better then previous years since their back to back top 2 finishes. Will Maclean be able to last the year without an implosion?
4: Woodville: resigned Joe Jackson & keeping the core the same, will be looking to add another guard import like Julian Jacobs. Signing of Humphries & Wurm will be great additions to the squad. Whitmore back at the helm of the Holy Warriors, he’ll be looking for a greater year than previous years. Is it possible to fill Julian Jacobs shoes?
3: Norwood: Andrew Webber coming back from his Knee gives them shooting & leadership. Resigning Lycett, Green, Harding keeps their core solid. Losing dual Wallacott medallist CJ Turnage is a spot they’ll need to replace. How will Harding go coming off the bench?
2: Sturt: Joel Spear and the core come back. Sam Daly’s future still up in the air. An import big to come in and fill the hole that’s needed. No rim protection has hurt them the past couple years. Reigning COY Rigoni back to lead the troops, will Jacob Rigoni be the biggest impact player of the year?
1: Forestville: Andy 'Checkbook’ Simons has reportedly refinanced his Porsche to acquire the signings of Daniel Johnson and Jack Purchase. Pair them with Adam Doyle, Machar, Mays and Brine and you’re looking at a dominant, versatile lineup. Will Simmo rock the infamous denim shorts round one?
