Your clubs All-Time All-Import team.

Create your clubs all-time squad using only imports.

RULES
Based only on their time with your club. ie The 36ers wouldn't claim Ebi Ere based on his MVP performance with the Bullets.
Must have been an import when he played for the team. (Al Green was an import for the Bearcats, but not the 36ers).

My 80's 36ers knowledge is limited, so I may omit some here.

STARTERS
C : Bill Jones
F : Mark Davis
F : Julius Hodge
G : Willie Farley
G : Jerome Randle

BENCH
Adam Ballinger
Kevin Brooks
Robert Rose
Darnell Mee
Gary Ervin

Not sure Hodge and Randle have much business being starters ahead of Mee, Brooks, Rose...

Are we considering their full body if work for the club, or only their peak season?

Davis the definite standard. Then would have to put Farley, Mee and Brooks as those that contributed most to championship. With all respect to Jones he had a pretty good cast but would have him on bench. Rose was probably most valuable and true MVP candidate. Hodge could play and if his departure wasn't so sour would put him in Rose company. Randle had great stats but couldn't lead to promised land. Ballinger just a great warhorse that came to play every night. Ervin, meh.

So mine

PG - Mee
SG - Farley
SF - Rose
PF - Brooks
C - Davis

It obviously has Davis and KB out of position but going with a small ball lineup.

Bench
Ballinger
Randle
Trimmingham
Jones
Childress

Stats wise and the ability to generate excitement and team exposure, there is validity in putting in Randle. But if I want the pieces to win a championship, Mee and Rose any day of the week.

For North Melbourne Giants I would consider putting in Joe Hillman (that guy was clutch)

I'm adding a question mark to the end of my sentence above since the rule is more about performance for said club over career, rather than to eliminate overlaps. OP to confirm?

Would love the NBL All-Star game back. 2013 NBL All-Star game format was a bit boring. That's why NBL was never keen bringing it back.

I was lucky enough to go to the 2007 All-Star game when I was a kid. It was at the SNHC, Melbourne when Nat Jawai won the MVP. Homicide was fun to watch with birdman lol.

Aussie All-Stars v World All-Stars was the best format. Even the 2006 All-Star game in Adelaide was a ripper. Willie Farely was amazing in that game.

Doubt NBL All-Star game will be back anytime soon with covid still around... :(

Fisher was naturalised before he joined Perth? I don't think that is correct. He joined in 1993 and partnered Grace in 1993, 1994 and 1995.

The list for Perth is a tough one. Apart from Grace, Redhage and Cotton, they haven't had someone as an import for a long period. Pinder, Crawford and Fisher were imports for just three seasons and I think Pete Hansen may be the same. Was it three for Prather and Lichti?

As someone that has seen the imports since 1986, I'd go with Grace, Cotton, Redhage, Fisher and Crawford.

Agreed, Bol. I followed the Giants for several years and can't remember the names I want to. Thanks!

There was also Matt Waldron, a very handy player but no superstar and the "Black Hole", Chris(?) Rees. Tim Dillon another.

Really like this thread and the team-lists that have been posted.

Imagine those teams, listed above, in One, NBL season.

PS: Tigers/United? With all the hoo-ha when United started, and they wanted little to tie them to the "old" Tigers.

Tigers became United. It was a rebrand. Many don't like it but it's true.

Just United era though:

Boone/Long
Kennedy/Warrick
Prather/Hopson/Felix
Holt/McRae
Ware/Trimble

11-man roster in line with modern NBL.... and to fit in cult figure Carrick Felix.

I think that's all imports other than Ramone Moore, Devin Williams, Stephen Dennis and Stanton Kidd. Not a bad import team over 7 years

Al Westover and Johnny Flynn were two notable PG imports for the Tigers. Also, Copeland played point during the 98-99 season (after drew went to the Spurs) and made all NBL so if you're a stickler for the positions that should be enough.

Timmons over Bennett Davison (the athletic fool from Arizona) 10 times out of 10.

Homicide Williams played 1 season (2011), like Flynn a year or 2 later (2012/13 ish)

TJ Campbell another. With Devendorf a combo guard same season. 2011/12 I think

Mustapha Farrakhan (13/14) was a combo guard also

What position did Goorjian play (1984)? Averaged 7.5 assists so I assume PG.

Reply #873621 | Report this post

Ah right yeah I was out of the country for the seasons of all those other later PG so didn't occur to me.

To be honest I always thought Goorj was a SG but clearly well before our time. With Drew putting up 29 a game in that rookie season there'd be plenty of assists on offer.

Fisher definitely one of the best Imports to play for Perth. Won a championship in 95. Must have naturalised soon after because he played in the Olympics in 96.

If you include Ennis based on one season, then Mooney has to also be considered

Firstly, I'm absolutely loving the meting of Marcus Timmons, a clearly underrated import and I'd love to have him on the bench of my Wildcats team.

I'd also like David Van Dyke as I just remember him blocking everything in sight and with Crawford ahead of him (and blocking everything in sight also) I think giving DVD the directive to go out there and rim protect would be an awesome spectacle.

I'd go with

Grace/
Cotton/Lisch
Ennis/Timmons
Fisher/Mooney
Crawford/Van Dyke

I'm unsure if Cal Bruton was ever an import for the Wildcats so I'd include him otherwise I guess Redhage (never liked him and he doesn't bring anything that isn't already brought in this squad) or Lichti or Tucker. What a fantastic team

As for the Townsville squad above, I'd include Mickell Gladness for his incredible rim protection and for the same ideals as Van Dyke above that you can live with them getting 2 quick fouls if opposition are scared to attack the rim with them on court.

Incredible topic, well done OP and thanks for making me think
