The fact that he's choosing to play in the NBL rather than Europe to improve his NBA stock really says a lot about how far the league has come.

Nice little run down by Shamir on Besson and Besson on the NBL in the video here: https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/basketball/300413886/nz-breakers-announce-french-guard-hugo-besson-as-second-import-for-nbl-22

Clearly, the Webster issues inhibited the Breakers announcing this signing.

Besson must have been a potential Next Star and it sounds like the Breakers thought he's worth an import spot regardless. He looks like an exciting player.

Not necessarily NZB have always been funny with announcing things, AFAIK they still haven't announced Shamir's contract extension yet.

Teams can only have one NS and they've already signed one so Besson was always going to be an import.

It s a lot easier to look great in the nbl than in quite a few respectable leagues in Europe. The French league is very tough. This is not a bagging of the nbl by the way, it's just if you’re young and looking to get to the nba it’s more than likely the best option.

Breakers looking very good, hopefully they don’t have to be on the road for ever.

Very much so. The NBL has never been as heavily scouted by the NBA in it's history than now and these Euro players know that, young guys like these would tend to be 'hidden' more in Euro leagues here as a NS signing they get a lot more exposure to NBA scouts.

It's probably popular now after we've had 4 1st rounders the last few years.

I was talking more about Dieng but Besson too as an import will get plenty of exposure but will be judged more harshly than a NS.

Dieng & Besson will get their opportunities especially now Tai is gone.
Good move as they will be able to lean on each other being young in a new country.

"Teams can only have one NS and they've already signed one so Besson was always going to be an import."

I think what was meant was that Besson was likely being shopped as NS to teams and the Breakers thought they liked him so much they may as well snap him up as an import before another team signs him as a NS.

How tall is Hugo? Some places have him as 6 foot and others have 6'3" and some places are saying he’s grown to 6’6” now?

Matt Walsh has said "he's like 6’6" and can get buckets” in a recent article on stuff.co.nz.
