Tasmania Tridents name taken by the BPL

Tasmania Tridents name has been taken by the Bowls Premier League (BPL).

The NBL had it's chance taking Tridents, but they didn’t listen to their fans. Like usual, they make their own decisions and don’t listen.

Ironic how a Tasmanian Bowls team has taken the rights to the Tridents name. They can’t look back now.

How silly does the NBL look now, lol!

They...don't? The name was never going to be used by the NBL team, so they missed out on nothing, and this doesn't affect them in the slightest.

If you do some research, and speaking to many Tasmanians. they all know what a jack jumper is, and are all for it...

is the marketing very very similar to the college team the fortwayne mad ants... yes

does it matter

no

move along now

I hope they are successful

Just a pity that SEM are green and black

with black being their home top

should have been other colours for SEM and Jackjumpers...

but i digress

Jack Jumpers IS a Stupid name.
But who cares?

Is it any worse than the 36's, Melbourne United, Sydney Kings, or even the Perth Wildcats? At least it's more original than the Phoenix.

And don't get me started on the Fremantle Wharfies, or the Adelaide Crows

And yes, if you trawls through the thousands of Collegiate and High_school teams in the USA, there are some absolute shockers.

All that matters is that the people of Tasmania get behind them.
I imagine there will be people who are pissed of by the name, but getting pissed off at management over stupid decisions is all part of being a fan.

D2.0 I dont mind the jack jumpers... so each to their own

and the 36ers makes sense if you know why it is called that

Opinions are great

be bad if we all like the same thing be a pretty boring life

and those absolute 'shockers' would be well loved by those teams fans

could they have been called something better?

define better?

and then even then people still would debate that it was a terrible name

just wish they had picked a different colour scheme...

too many red/black/dark home teams and now two green teams...

When Port first introduced the Power there were a lot of knockers. After last weekend the usual Powers off headlines were in full force.
And for Pulp Fiction fans, there's the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs T-shirt that Vince wears, an actual mascot for a college.
Doing a bit of research, found out that the Mad Ants weren't actually named after the insect. The winning name of Mad Ants was chosen as a salute to the city's and fort's namesake, General "Mad" Anthony Wayne. Thank god Gleeson didn't go there, could have been the Tassie Angry Trev's.
Everyone will have to get used to Jack Jumpers, if the locals like it great. I suppose since most of mainland Australia, like the test of the world, is going wtf is a jack jumper, oh, it's an ant.
As for colour schemes, you would have to be adventurous since main ones are taken. But could have gone grey (silver) and black like Spurs, Maroon like Cavs or even North Carolina Blue.
Now hopefully they are competitive and supported and entrench themselves in the league. Sam Presti gave the league a big thumbs up with one of the reasons to draft Giddey was the quality of the NBL.

We know why the 36's are called that, it's still a terrible name. But who cares.
It's "interesting" that it appears they'd locked in the name even whilst persisting with the sham popularity poll, but again, who cares.

I'm much more interested in seeing how they play, and how many fans they get.

I didn't like Jackjumpers when I first heard it, but it's starting to seem not overly terrible. And they haven't even played yet.

Team names have a habit of growing over time.

As mentioned above, there's plenty of team names that are a bit weird. What is a "Breaker" or a "36er". Yet they just seem normal now; no one gives it a 2nd thought.

I agree there's too many red and black teams in the NBL. But I don’t get why the Sixers changed their royal blue to navy blue like Melbourne United. Sixers should of at least kept yellow. Never was a big fan of Phoenix’s colours. Hi-viz and grey don’t match. There were so many better names then Phoenix and colours. There’s no NBL teams with teal which is a cool colour.

Kings, 36ers are silly names. United will always be a joke. If your meant to be United then show every Victorian banner at your games. It’s just Tigers. Otherwise consider the Tigers records. Larry is a sketchy person. They could of gone a better way around it, but oh well it happened.

NBL is a funny league how they do their business. Let's just hope they resurrect some NBL teams rather than bringing in more franchises. Wasn’t they’re more than 20 defunct NBL franchises already.

South East Melbourne Phoenix is way too long.
Just watch the commentators try to say it.

Would of been easier with just Southeast. Melbourne wouldn't of made a massive difference. Phoenix are looking better then United this season. United with 1 import and some old blocks won’t even make finals.

Dragons would of made sense to bring back because if you look at the last 4 NBL champions by clubs. It’s only been Melbourne (2), Perth (6), New Zealand (4), South (1).

What was the NBL’s issue with the Dragons?
Dragons were new enough.

Ummm, that's why the commentary call them the Phoenix in game, just like they do all the club's. Only when they're doing official intros do they do full name.

And do a bit of research why the Dragons went under.

Plenty of teams in leagues all over the world have long names and get along fine with shorter versions

Trailblazers Blazers
36ees/76ees Sixers
Maple Leafs: Leafs
Fighting Irish: Irish

People will shorten them to the Jacks or JJ's and it'll be fine
