Basketball Victoria need to cancel everything for 2021

They need to just announce that NBL1, Big V and VJBL are all finished for 2021.... the lockdown is only getting started, cases are up, mystery cases appearing everywhere, non compliance etc... crown the champions and move on to preparing 2022. there was enough season played for the teams in first to have earned their championship as there are no ties

But some teams on the top have played fewer games than some. No titles should be awarded.

Parents paying up again for another mess of a season, and expected to pay again? Not sure what the solution is.

What about cancelling this VJBL season and start getting the grading season on the way allowing for some spare Fridays for possible (probable) lockdowns. Do the same for the fixture in 2022 and have spare / catchup days in the fixture, if this isn't done them I can see us having the same problems again in 2022.

Sadly we are going to have to adjust to survive.

I just want the kids to play!

This is the dumbest post in a while.

So many issues with just stopping everything now.

There will be a way forward. stop trying to create panic and stir sh!t.

Just chill need to all try to be positive. No benefit in being so negative all the time!

2022 vjbl season needs to be reduced and better managed. Need to stop trying to squeeze the maximum schedule. Instead of a near year round season of competition why not reduce grading and competition over 4- 6 mths maximum and the rest of the time focus on in house development and training
Less chance of injuries and burnout.
Greater development rather than just competition focus.
Probably won't happen cos it's all about $$.
And it'll be another muddled messed up season for 2022!

867829 I dont think it is Dumb - As a coach and a parent I think as sad as it is the season is done, Big-V and VJBL seasons will not return. This lockdown has been extended until the 10th September which is past the last round. I dont think Vic will allow indoor sport to start straight up so could even be a week or 2 after the 9th until players are allowed back indoors.
School holidays then come into play and then try-outs for 21/22

in state champ, everyone has played the same amount of games and keilor is first, in d1 and d2 both teams at the top, keys and rmit, are both undefeated. crown these 3 champs and call it a season

Relax. BV will be talking to clubs going through options and will make a public decision in due course. There's absolutely no rush given the current lockdown.

Reckon a tournament would be a good idea, just to give the kids 5/6 games over a few days. Make it regionally based so less movement.

Finally someone talking some sense!

I am yet to understand the logic behind such a long VJBL season. Does the gradings phase need to be so convoluted?

Shorter season and more time dedicated to actual development - spot on!

Stupid comment! Just because they are on top now by no means says they are they best teams. Have you ever played sport?

well if you have teams that are undefeated and several games ahead of the closest competitor then yes, you are the best team until someone beats you. and since no one has been able to do that, they are the best teams. but i guess you never played sports or you were the one who received a trophy for participating

Straight from a club Big V season finals for top 4 teams will occur for everyone Yay!!!!!!! More info coming in next couple of days on big v

Aiming for 11/12 sept all finals played on one weekend at big large metro venues selcted by league to give best shot to complete them and regional teams will travel down for weekend.

a reserve week will be used I think the next week 18/19 sept if not able to play 11/12 sept or clubs arent able to train during the week leading up to finals. which makes sense to ensure we can at least train together once or twice before playing finals fgames.

Well done big v - aim for the stars !!!! we all need hope and what a brilliant plan and news for us all.

But bad news will be 18-19 Sep the cord will officially be CUT on the season . Fingers crossed this doesn;t happen but at least we have hope again and Big V are doing what they should be doing giving it the best shot to get the seson complete rather than just giving up!!!!!!

BIG V Plan all there on website- awesome ! fingers crossed we can get back

Due to the extension of Greater Melbourne's COVID-19 lockdown restrictions until at least 2 September 2021, all scheduled games of the final two regular season rounds (Rounds 22/23) have unfortunately been cancelled. (Cancelled games count as a game played for all players on both teams rosters for finals qualification purposes)

With that in mind, all divisions/conferences will now proceed to a Top-4 finals series. All finals will be played at metropolitan league selected venues only and completed over a single weekend of 9-12 September 2021 (time of games/venues TBA).

If in the unfortunate case Victoria or Metropolitan Melbourne continue to endure Government restrictions in which basketball is not able to be played as at 11:59pm Monday 6 September, the finals series will not take place on the scheduled dates and will be postponed to the 'reserve week' of 16-19 September in attempt to complete the season.

If restrictions continue in this way as at 11:59pm Monday 13 September, the 2021 season will be cancelled with no team declared winners.

These deadline dates are in place to ensure athletes are provided an opportunity to train together in the week leading up to the finals commencing.

While the league would like to provide a more extended training opportunity prior to the commencement of finals, we do not have the luxury of additional weeks to complete the season. The overwhelming response to the 'latest completion date' for the season was 18-19 September, via survey response.

As we are mindful of concerns that some associations may have with the minimal window to return to train prior to finals, in the event a finals team does not wish to participate, the fifth placed team on the ladder will be promoted and given the opportunity to play finals if they choose to.

Be pushing it I think to have finals this year and the Big V have tried but we only have so many weeks in a year. Reality is every lockdown basketball has always been slow to return as its an ''indoor'' sport

Far greater issues in this game than this season - what effect does this and cancelled events have on the future player development and also participation in the game.
