Spain v Slovenia
Threadworthy in it's own right obviously a result that impacts the Boomers.
Spain up 14 to 12.

Boomers scenarios:
Result of ESP-SLO / Possible AUS opponent
Slovenia win = Argentina 50%/Spain 50%
Spain win by more than 12 = Argentina 50%/Slovenia 50%
Spain win by less than 12 = Slovenia 100%
The last scenario is ridiculous but is due to FIBA's strange treatment of the #2 seed.
Spain win by exactly 12 = both ESP & AUS would have the same points differential so the tie-breaker is number of total points scored. Currently AUS 259; ESP 169. So we would want Spain to score over 90 in this unlikely scenario to avoid seed #2 and a shot at Argentina.

Definitely looks like Spain are getting away with a lot of dodgy plays, elbows on screens etc then Slovenia getting called for soft things.

Doncic with three fouls. Let's go Spain 12+.

Watching this Olympics makes me realise how strong basketball is across countries.
Depth is significant, if the Boomers get through to the medal round would be a significant achievement.
Watching this game I'd much rather play Slovenia than Spain. Luka is one man and we have the best NBA defender per minute played on our team.

Would also rather Slovenia . Their best player is better than any Boomer but we have a better team.

Alright scratch that 12pt scenario rubbish it's basically this for the draw after the game:
Slovenia win = Argentina 50%/Spain 50%
Spain win = Argentina 50%/Slovenia 50%
Yes let's go Spain by 12+ and Luka to slip in toilets
Spain providing a pretty good blueprint for handling Luka, too. If everyone else beats you, fine, but don't let him do it. Deny him when you can, double him when he catches, send early help on drives. I would absolutely be starting Thybulle if we play Slovenia.

So to avoid Spain we need them to win tonight?
They don't look unbeatable though.
Spanish coach, who is an assistant on the Raptors, doing the box and-1 defense to Luka just like the raptors did to the warriors & curry.
"Alright scratch that 12pt scenario rubbish it's basically this for the draw after the game:

Is Pau pretty much a non factor these days or is it just this game?
Add an extra group next time and top two through, have all set up before it's started, cross overs and all matches.

Doncic is a bit handy...Spain getting the rub of the green
Spain no how to get results, in saying that they are certainly beatable.
Spain getting calls. Fiba HQ must have dialled up the refs

This performance makes me want Argentina in the draw so bad now.
Boomers need Ingles to shoot as much as these guys are. He was the second highest TS% in NBA but only putting up a few a game at Olympics

Pau still averaging 9ppg at 41years old.
But yes not a factor in this one.
Both these front courts could cause serious headaches for the Boomers.
Slovenia coach getting into the refs, about time.
Slovenia ball movement is fantastic. Not having much exposure to them you have to be really impressed.

This scares me, because if Slovenia wins, FIBA will definitely give Spain the weakest opponent they can be matched up against out of the pool, which is Australia.

Yeah, you know if we play france or spain we are getting badly screwed by the refs.
Maybe we could go 6 OT and they'll both be exhausted for the quarters

Spain can draw either France, USA or Australia.
So they'll draw us.
Yeah, look, QF draw aside, I just enjoy watching Spain lose. Great comeback from Slovenia who were twelve points down at one stage.
They don't play anything else at a high level, just bball. Lithhisnia etc
JB

This new format with a draw for the quarters is partly due to Spain dropping a 2nd game on purpose in the group stage to avoid the US side of the draw (by finishing 3rd in their group instead of 2nd, after they dropped an early game), in the process playing and eliminating France in the quarters. It's not a good look for the sport to have teams dropping games on purpose, so they changed the format, although the number of games is probably also a factor.
It would be quite funny if there was a quarter between France and Spain!

Prediction of the "draw"
Australia vs Spain (weakest opponent for Spain)
USA vs Argentina (let USA TV ratings through to the semis, and only one North American team in the semis)
France vs Italy (guarantee two other Euros in the semis)
Slovenia vs Germany (ditto)
Why is everyone so scared of Spain? I know we've lost to them the last couple of times, but they have gone a bit backwards since then. Most of their best players are in decline.
They were lights out from 3pt range and still couldn't win tonight.

Because Spain are the absolute masters at playing Euro ball, out guys aren't. Spain have stood up and done it at the highest levels, we never have. Thirdly Spain always seem to get a nice ride from the refs in the big games, Aus being a bball minnow never does.
What I don't get is clearly it was in Spain's best interests to lose this game which they did despite Doncic having a quiet one yet all this BS about the new draw is seeing them manufacture the results like always?
Perthworld

It wasn't in their best interest.
By winning Slovenia now face either Germany or Italy.
Spain potentially France, USA or Australia.

Apparently the draw wont be televised now due to "IOC restrictions" which sounds to me a lot like there's nothing vaguely random about this draw whatsover.

At first I thought it meant to watch it via your official host broadcaster but on second take it's a special feed for accredited media personell only? WTF!

Update on the Draw
Due to IOC restrictions, we will not be allowed to stream the Quarter-Finals draw on YouTube or any other streaming service. The draw will be made available for all accredited media members through the MyINFO+ service.
Here's the broadcaster info for watching Olympic Basketball on television in your country.
US v Spain would be the perfect match up for 9:30 game.

Draw has to be televised probably through broadcasters.

Australia had more teams from its group qualify to the next stage so have less possible opponents as you can't face the same teams in the quarter finals.

I think the draw was meant to happen at the press conference for the Spain/Slovenia game?
But how can one be 1 in 2 and the other be 1 in 3. By percentage chance

I'm assuming MyINFO+ is where the media access press conferences and other resources, so it makes sense it will also stream the draw.
The public should have access to it via their broadcaster as well via the basketball feed but it doesn't seem to be scheduled. Poor form.
