Sixers v Snakes May 4

Ah.... hello there.

Sixers have a must win game against a team who can surprise their opposition when they want too. Josh Giddey missed the Josh Fight in Lincoln NE, but he was too busy getting back to back triple doubles, the youngest Aussie to do so. Can he make it a trilogy of triple doubles? or will be Empire Strike Back? What Jedi mind tricks has Master Henry got in store tonight? "This is not the foul you are looking for"

Cairns is a sunny 28 degrees, so The Taipans will feel like they are landing on Hoth, and without Cam Oliver could struggle to warm up in the front court, where Sixers centre, and part time Wookie, Isaac Humphries could thrive. You know it's not wise to upset a centre, but sir, nobody worries about upsetting a guard.

I'm thinking the Sixers have the higher ground and with the home team beaming with confidence deserve to go in a favourites to the game, may the fourth be with them.

I think Sixers could win this comfortably, so that means cairns will probably win. Pinder on Jois could be interesting, two athletes before basketballers. Both can do have streaky games amongst the very average. A test for Sixers as on paper they are the better outfit. Sixers by 9.

Be interesting to see crowd given very public free tickets being thrown around everywhere

36ers have always given out lots of free tickets, why is this only relevant now?

Before anyone references the current owner, past owners have out free tix en masse as well!

I guess because of the current owners political ambitions, the rules around gift giving changes somewhat.

I am sure all clubs give out freebies to either inflate their crowd numbers or even as promotional tools. It shouldn't be an issue really, as long as each club is getting close to breaking even each year. I think people are conflating two issues. Giving out freebies while being in the red doesn't necessarily mean the free tickets are causing the lack of profit

I think the issue is the buying of political favour. Kelley wants to run for the notionally blue ribbon Liberal seat of Mayo (Alexander Downer's old seat) currently held by an independent so he's buttering up Liberal Party members in the hope of getting pre-selection for the seat.

It's quite odious really but it's his team, his tickets and if he wants to give them away to whoever that his business really.

Yes, I was going to mention Axel, he did a good job in the pre-quel, some say he was quite fluent in Wookie speak too, even without a few lagers in him ;)

Intriguing listen to podcast by Brett Maher and Andrew McLeod. Had Phil Smyth as a guest. The General was scathing of JVG and suggested it highly disrespectful to Conner that JVG picks roster, yet coach lives and dies by results. Must say I tend to agree.

Why a club would not have coach head up roster formation spells doom as is currently being witnessed with the 6ers this season.

Mike Kelly sucks. Team is getting owed on defence and all he talks about is offence. No clue

Is it just me or do most of the Sixers look disinterested in anything Henry says / look like they don't want to be there?

No point talking to Cairns about defence, most there players don't play it. Paul playing very well. Jois’s free throws entertainment on there own.

Henry has always been a bust. Kelly has been found out based on limited talent. Ie. He can't coach.

Coach yelling get it through hands when there is 18 on the clock and Paul has the ball! How about we hold it for the last shot.

They literally are throws and not shots. Bizarre from a professional basketballer.

Not sure what JVG sees in Henry.

He found in Henry someone who agreed to the structure in place whereby JvG selects all the playing personnel. Even Caporn, with no prior NBL head coaching experience, declined the job because it was a terrific situation to put yourself in.

Why does it feel that it's a bunch of Perth fans jumping on to sling shit at Henry because he didn’t last in Perth?

The only thing that I’ve really found perplexing this year is why McVeigh is on such a short leash? He hasn’t done stupid things and he is playing efficiently.

Adelaide are looking more and more like a team each time they play. They have the basics of a very competitive team. To many knockers of Henry. Next four games is a big test.
Cairns, most of their players are playing for contracts, 2/3 are probably signed but most are not up to it. If they can get there last season three imports, Jawai, Deng, Duffelmeir, and some quality around them they will be ok. Just to many average players on their list.

It's a real shame they didn’t have Paul from the start and it’s a real shame Humphries got injured. This team is probably looking like a 3-6 group type team at the moment instead of 7-9.

No one knows exactly what transpired with Caporn or even if he put his name forward. If he did it " declined the job because it was a terrific situation to put yourself in." It wasn't a terrific situation at all.

I think coach deserves the right to have a major say - they're the one that ultimately lives and dies by it.

There were rumours that Randle was forced upon Joey Wright last year - it doesn’t show the right confidence to have someone giving you the setup and blaming you when it doesn’t work even if the setup is wrong. Henry could be in that situation especially with those import slots that let’s face it we got it wrong with Don Sloan.

Because the Sixers asked him to take a Covid-related pay cut.

I think Caporn was smart enough to see that he would have to play second fiddle to JVG, who would ultimately put his career in jeopardy with poor recruiting from a small band of agents he takes slings from. Smart move. If he's any good, lots more opportunities will up.

"Henry's coaching along with our play has improved a fair bit since the NBL Cup."

Yeah, not surprisingly, the team has gradually improved once they had time to train together and game plan for opponents. The games were coming too fast early in the season and it was pretty tough on an 18 year old Giddey, rookie Pinder and 34 year old Crocker to step up into bigger roles.

Pinder has been the biggest beneficiary. He finally started looking like he was up to speed 6-7 games ago and now he's rewarding Conner's faith in him earlier in the season with some big contributions. He really looks like he can be a valuable NBL player now!

BP3 has a few limitations to his game that bother me still (how does a guy who's that athletic struggle to finish at the rim most of the time?!) but he's clearly an elite shooter and has started having a good impact as a disruptive defender and rebounder.

It might be worth trying to hang onto BP3 and see how much he can develop next year with some NBL experience and a pre-season? My only concern is that he's not a playmaker and so if he and Dech are both starters, we'll have to sign a quality point guard. That would also mean either Paul or Dech would probably be guarding opposing swingmen most of the time and be giving up a bit of height. Think the Sixers can get away with that?

Anyone know what McDowell-White would be on with the Breakers? Would he move on rather than be stuck behind Tai Webster next season?
