Breakers v Hawks May 3rd

Monday night action sees the plucky Breakers roll out the red carpet to to the Hawks. Both teams still have a chance of finals contention. Illawarra sits outside the 4 like a bank robber outside the vault trying to crack the combo. Breakers are still a chance but a loss tonight means they are cooked, but a win still has the in the hunt, albeit they need others to lose and results to go their way. When that happens you might as well get Ray Shoesmith on the job to help your chances.

Last time they played the Hawks had the better of the Breakers, but three losses on the trot for them looking for answers and Deng Adel won't be part of the trivia team. The Hawks will ask questions of the Breakers tonight and the Breakers will ask questions of the Hawks.

The bonus trivia round is always the 3rd quarter. Breakers have the answers tonight.

NZ looking good with WMW and Tai Webster steering the ship and Rob Loe backing up Iverson.
If NZ aren't feeling too fatigued I expect them to win this, they've played a few games on the trot but do finally have the luxury of an actual bench rotation especially with both Webster brothers back on court.

If you can limit Jessup and Harvey, you beat the Hawks. The Breakers can now rotate Abercrombie and Randolph on Jessup, and WMW and Tai Webster on Harvey, and now have a second big man behind Iverson. This should suggest the Breakers will win, unless the Breakers have a shocker, which is certainly a possibility with how they played against Cairns.

Firstly great write up as always Jack, love your work.

Secondly Breakers should out man Hawks here but the hawks sit in 5th for reason. As others have mentioned key to this game will be Iverson, T Webster, Randoplh, Harvey and Jessup

Hawks on an 8 day break, Breakers playing 5th game in 11 days. Suggests NZ need a really fast start or Goorj's boys will wear them down.

If that's the case, Breakers should win this. No travel since last game and WMW, Webster Bros, Delaney and Iverson all more or less played <25 mins last time round.

#326 Jessup is ranked 18th in PPG this season at 14.7 per game. So there are 17 other players who walk and score more buckets lol

Tyler Harvey on a mission. Can he keep it up? Hawks offence other than him looking very ugly.

Goorj just out coached Shamir, Harvey was unstoppable. Great result for hawks. Breakers have had it tough, no doubt but some of their players believe to much in their own hype. WMW stagnates quick offence.

They didn't play great but they looked fatigued in the second half. I know the league needs them to catch up but there should be a player welfare consideration too. Playing every second day almost after a season that’s already had the NBL cup and all that travel is really tough.

While the Hawks did well to get the win I hope they don’t make the playoffs. Their offence is super ugly. It’s just let Harvey launch prayers and hope their defence generates some buckets. I hope that’s not what Goorjian has planned for the Boomers because Lemanis for all his flaws had the Boomers rolling at times.

This Breakers roster promised so much! I know the boys are tired and it's been mentally and physically tough! But any chance of finals is now gone! Super disappointing with this roster but also frustrating! They couldn’t lift for Tommy’s 350th, they couldn’t lift tonight! The two losses to Cairns, the ot Perth game, there’s 4 games already and they’d be 13-13.

At this stage, do they cling to the mathematical possibility OR do they play some of the kids, ie- Galloway?

Also, what happened to Terri Li?

"Pathetic performance by the Breakers. Clearly some of the players already had one eye on the trip home."

Tom, Tai, Corey & Finn and a few others have been in Australia away from their friends and family since December jumping from hotel to hotel living out of a suitcase, cut them some slack..

No slack. They're professional players. And I think they let themselves and their supporters down in the game against Cairns and the Hawks. Winnable games where they should have had the fire to win and get home on a positive note.

Most of their supporters are compassionate about their situation and realize the uphill battle they have faced all season never mind the heavy current schedule.

Yes MYSTRO it's been a tough slog, problem is out of the players you mentioned Abercrombie has been their best, if the rest team could have just put in as much as old man Tom NZ would be knocking on finals door. Professional players all over the world are away from family and friends longer than NZ have been. To many players believe their own hype in Breakers, time for a clean out.

Breakers ownership must not think it is too much of an issue either with games in NZ slotted in for New Plymouth and Christchurch with more locations to be announced.

#420 but yes those players OS you speak of have a home base, an apartment etc etc. NZ have been bumped from hotel to hotel, state to state, quarantine, isolation etc etc Tom has played well but even he has been up and down and not as consistent as you may think. He is almost down in every stat v career. The Breakers have done an exceptional job under extremely trying circumstances and they have had more than their fair share of injuries plus off court dramas.

NZ have done well given the adversity they have faced.
They're were also missing Randolph, in fact how many games have they had a full roster of healthy players to choose from.

Name one sporting team that has ever been on a five month road trip with restrictions on any family being able to enter a country to visit them.
