Illawarra v Sydney Apr 24

A few good things have come out of the Gong over the time. The Owen machine gun for one and for this of you who want an interesting yarn, look it up, but for basketball fans let's get down to brass tacks.

Sydney in 3rd spot, Hawks in 5th. Between them, the green mush of SE Melbourne. Sydney turned them into smashed avo on Thursday, now they're looking for some chook for their Caesar salad. But the Hawks won't go lightly. They're skinned the Kings alive both times this season and now they're on home court.

Illawarra with the fresher legs, Kings with 3 wins on the trot. I'm giving neither team the luxury of my Death Kiss.

Hear Jessup and Adel could be out. Bairstow still. What's everyone's thoughts on Justin Simon?

Illawarra are sliding, I see them slumping to 7th by end of season.

If Jessup will not play, hawks in trouble..his second leading scorer of hawks..

Adel out is a bonus to the hawks, if true on Jessup, big loss. Goorj will have been preparing all week for this game while kings only get back from Melbourne, should favour the Hawks. To hard to work this out, I'll tip hawks just because kings have won three in a row and the way this comp goes are due for loss. Hawks by 3.

1969, "What's everyone's thoughts on Justin Simon?"

I am certainly not "everyone" but IMO Justin Simon could be a bonus as a 3rd import, providing what's needed from the bench. He shows great skills and smarts but not often enough to be 1 of 2 imports. In small bursts, he could replicate Harvey's influence and/or run the team or cover most other weaknesses they may experience game to game.

Retain Harvey and get a specialist PG and keep Simon to come off the bench.

The Hawks already have a bevvy of forwards, who are unfortunately under performing, Adel, Deng, Gak and Darling, or injured, Bairstow.

Bairstow, Adel and Deng are worth keeping, they will get into the swing of things (obviously, should have, by now). A specialist distributer (PG) would help their cause greatly.

PG: Import/Naar/White
SG: Harvey/Grida/(White)
SF: Deng/Simon/Darling/Gak
PF: Bairstow/Adel
C: Froling/Ogilvy/(Barstow)

Jessup is more than likely gone (next season) and I know nothing of Dent.

Sorry to say but the local guards, Naar, Grida and White are not great at finding baskets for their team. Sure, they pass lots but there doesn't seem to be too many plays that lead to advantage (scoring), mainly pass and see what happens. Compare their game with the league's top teams, where their half-court is so organised.

If Hawks release him, and if Cairns can't re-recruit Newbill as their 3rd import, they should look at Simon to go with Machado and Oliver.

Cairns are a very balanced roster and when all the parts are fulfilling their roles and, you add Newbill or Simon, do they come back to contender status? With Newbill, yes. With Simon, maybe.

Deng is a 10th man at best and Adel has done nothing and should be removed. Adel is on import money, he's shown nothing and would have been gone long ago if he was an import. Goorj likes people that can play defensively and neither can do it well. Simon as an import has done well and poorly depending on who’s he’s playing against. Third import maybe but to inconsistent. I’m not certain the league should go back to three imports till the covid is well behind us just for financial reasons to keep club budgets in control.

No league in the world calls more offensive fouls than the NBL. Refs think they have to be involved in every play it's unbearable to watch.

The decrease in rosters, lower import limit, and salary cuts were all part of a special agreement with the ABPA that only applies to this season.

Someone tell Homicide that the three Lowery free throws were not in the fkn final.

Homicide recalling NBL history as if he was there is shameful. It's not the first time he's done it and got it wrong. It's not necessary.

Kings to good, Bruce to much dribble, Moller outstanding defensively, good offensively, Hunter the same. Kings should try lock these two up long term.

Illawarra very competitive, Jessup big loss, Froling plays better in the 5, Simon was very good both ends. I still don't see it in deng. Naar 12 assists good, still needs to attack more, defensively has improved markedly. Adel not missed.

Both coaches I thought did very well in a really tough game.

If Kings make playoffs, Forde will have a very good case for COY. Has done a brilliant job under the circumstances.

Lol at Bruce comments. Steers his team to an overtime win. One of the smallest guys on the floor chases down 13rbs. Only 3 turnovers at pg in 35 minutes against a good defensive team. 2nd best +- in the team.

You say more to the game than rebounding? I'd counter with more to the game than just shooting/scoring.

Froling needs to add a consistent elbow jump shot to his game. He was wide open so often in that area last night. Passing that shot up usually resulted in a worse shot for the team.

FSTOS: "Froling needs to add a consistent elbow jump shot to his game. He was wide open so often in that area last night. Passing that shot up usually resulted in a worse shot for the team."

Sam F's stats are impressive;
22pts, (@ 47%), 12 boards (5 of them offensive), 0 ass, and 1 turnover. Made up for that with a steal and 2 blocks and drew 4 fouls.

By the way, he actually took 21 shots. That's a lot for him, I'd say. Harvey, the team's 1st choice as a shooter, had 22 shots.

Maybe Sam thought he'll save his elbow jumper for another night.

Most impressive is he did all that in the key-way (from the elbow and in traffic)(that's from the shot chart and I know that that isn't all that accurate), in 41:01mins, and was only called for 1PF.

He'd have to be a coach's dream!

Perth fan, Heal may be right!

Moller with best +/- and index on the team, yes it's not all about scoring, Hunter was second best. As # 902 said kings back bone here for these two young guys.
