1969, "What's everyone's thoughts on Justin Simon?"
I am certainly not "everyone" but IMO Justin Simon could be a bonus as a 3rd import, providing what's needed from the bench. He shows great skills and smarts but not often enough to be 1 of 2 imports. In small bursts, he could replicate Harvey's influence and/or run the team or cover most other weaknesses they may experience game to game.
Retain Harvey and get a specialist PG and keep Simon to come off the bench.
The Hawks already have a bevvy of forwards, who are unfortunately under performing, Adel, Deng, Gak and Darling, or injured, Bairstow.
Bairstow, Adel and Deng are worth keeping, they will get into the swing of things (obviously, should have, by now). A specialist distributer (PG) would help their cause greatly.
PG: Import/Naar/White
SG: Harvey/Grida/(White)
SF: Deng/Simon/Darling/Gak
PF: Bairstow/Adel
C: Froling/Ogilvy/(Barstow)
Jessup is more than likely gone (next season) and I know nothing of Dent.
Sorry to say but the local guards, Naar, Grida and White are not great at finding baskets for their team. Sure, they pass lots but there doesn't seem to be too many plays that lead to advantage (scoring), mainly pass and see what happens. Compare their game with the league's top teams, where their half-court is so organised.
If Hawks release him, and if Cairns can't re-recruit Newbill as their 3rd import, they should look at Simon to go with Machado and Oliver.
Cairns are a very balanced roster and when all the parts are fulfilling their roles and, you add Newbill or Simon, do they come back to contender status? With Newbill, yes. With Simon, maybe.
