NBL 1 Central Rounds 3 and 4 Preview
Round 3
Forestville Vs North
Forestville came up short against Norwood last week on top of a huge game by Turnage dropping 37. Harris top scored again for the Eagles with 35 and got good support from Mays and Rios, but Brine went missing.
North sitting on bottom of ladder waiting for 36ers to finish and get McVeigh and Dech into the line-up as soon as possible. Things got ugly in the second half against Woodville, getting outscored 50-27. Cant see an upset here unless Harris does an ankle in the warmups, Forestville for an easy win.
West Vs Norwood
As mentioned, Norwood got a huge win last week against one of the favourites in Forestville. Just watching parts of the game, Turnage was unstoppable against a very good Eagles frontline. Was ably support by Lycett and Daniel Webber and Barei off the bench. West had a disappointing loss in opening round against Centrals and looked like they were destined for another one, trailing in the last, but ran away with it with a 33-15 last quarter run, Akok Machar dropping 16 off the bench. Will be interesting to see Turnage Vs Ross if they matchup, and also to see if West show any of the desperation they showed in 4th, or the previous lacklustre effort they have shown in previous 7 quarters of season. Going to go with a West upset.
South Vs Southern
Plenty of talk about skirmish last week with Starling, so will leave that, but South made easy work of probable wooden spoon Mavericks. Southern started off well but massive choke job in last, or could have been sign of fatigue with starters playing a tonne of minutes. South to have too much experience and talent but may be closer than expected.
Sturt Vs Eastern
Sturt had an even spread of scorers against Centrals last week, biggest story out of Mt Barker was the rumble at the mount. Sturt should cruise to an easy win.
Woodville Vs Centrals
Woodville in a position that they haven't been in years, a contender. Centrals relying on Lual Diing too much, if he doesn't drop 30, the Lions are in trouble. Young Magok Manyang the only other real contributor against the Sabres with Clausen a shell of self. Woodville have a tonne of weapons, both outside and inside, Stanbridge should feast inside the paint. Woodville by a lot, don't think Whitmore will take the foot off the gas in this one.
Round 4
Rather than repeat above summaries, with a very quick turnaround with the Anzac day clash I'll just pick winners with minor comments
Eastern Vs Southern
Unless Southern get lost going to Mt Barker, Southern to get win.
Forestville Vs Centrals
Forestville with a percentage boost.
North Vs West
Going for West, but could be case of whoever is interested in basketballing will get win here, North hoping to get at least 1 win before their stars suit up.
Norwood Vs South
Match of the round. Starling will have to play some vintage defence on Turnage but I'll go for the Flames in this one.
Sturt Vs Woodville
Should be a high scoring affair, Woodville having the advantage with their bigs but will be chasing Sturts guards around all night and if they all get hot could cause a boil over. But will take the safe bet with Woodville.
